Namco and Bandai Merge

Forbes has news that Japanese giants Namco and Bandai will merge. While this doesn't have much impact on the titles we cover, Namco is the publisher for 'Hellgate: London' and has signalled they may do more business in the PC sector in the future.

Hmm, I wonder how keen Bandai is on the move into the PC market....

Keen

I would say fairly keen but not overwhelmingly keen. I live in Japan and am an avid gamer. Sony (Playstation) and Nintendo consoles are immense here. A million seller title is mediocre. On the other hand, PC games are popular but more of a niche.

What this merger does is allow them to consolidate resources rather than compete against each other to publish the next Playstaion hit.

Online gaming in the form of Everquest, Ultima, World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy make up a large and profitable part of the PC market and I'll wager this has made them keen.

The Hellgate deal was a no brainer for Namco since Diablo was also a hit here in Japan. (Hellgate is being developed by Diablo creators)
