I never played Gothic and was getting ready to purchase it when I noticed that Gothic 2 is coming out. Has anyone heard much on this that will make them want to get it. I tried downloading the Gothic demo but I am having technical dificlulties at the moment...soon to restart at like 1 a.m.
Just wanted to know from all the Gothic geeks how excited they are with this new game. _________________

Well... I'm very excited about Gothic II. Read the GII - related news on GothicDot (the RPGDot hosted site devoted to Gothic) if you want to know about game features and this forum to get fans' opinions...
I for my part want it because I expect it to be at least as good as Gothic, and I hope the story will reallydepend on your actions this time. _________________ Jaz |

I figure if I am going to be playing Morrowind for awhile, then I can stand the wait for Gothic 2. When does it come out anyways? _________________

Perhaps because it's the sequel to the greatest RPG in recent history? |

Gothic 2 is scheduled for a 10/2002 release in Germany. JoWooD is inconsistent when it comes to translations. Its hard to predict if the English version will come out earlier or later.
IMO G2 will be even better than G1. Piranha Bytes will finetune everything, eliminate the major weaknesses, make the world bigger and sharpen the edges. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Even if you can play Morrowind until Gothic 2 comes out, you still should consider getting Gothic 1; the game's excellent, one of the best games I've ever played!
Of course, get the demo first, it's a totally different game than Morrowind. And give the controls some time, at first they seem very bad... but they aren't |

but Gothic2 sure looks like the same environment and landscape as Gothic1
1024x1024 textures, DX8.1, pixel shaders et al
I'm gagging for it
Morrowind - majorly boring
major headache
not much happens
bugger me with a clowns truncheon, but it's bloody slo-ooooow
PC Setup
WinXP SP1
2Ghz Athlon
1Gb DDR 2700 Corsair memory
Abit KX333 Mobo
Geforce4 Ti4600
ATA100 120Gb IBM 120GXP Glass Platters
And still, Morrowind is slower than Gothic on a Commodore Pet |

Me too. I certainly hope there will be multiple endings. _________________ =Farseer=

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate? |

I think there will be more choices in the big quests you do, but there will be only one outcome(Much like Gothic 1 and MW) The most exciting thing about Gothic 2 I've heard is that, it seems there will be many sub-plots going on along with the main one. MW has an interesting main plot(Thus poorly executed/directed) but nothing else in terms of sub-plots. Looks like in Gothic 2, we'll be able to fight the sleeper's master, slay 5 dragons, fight the orcs in castles and ore mines...etc. |

I hope people in the game will react to what you do. In Gothic 1 you can beat people up and they will still help you and teach you stuff as if nothing had happened. Also once they have had there stage in the story line they don't change what they say anymore. _________________ =Moderator of The RPGDot Shadows=

Why does translation/localization take so long? |

Why does translation/localization take so long?
Even for non-germanic/romantic languages such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean, we wait at most 3 weeks to a month for the localized version (ie: Dune Emperor, Baldur's Gate II, and numerous other titles.)
Maybe those guys in Germany need to outsource their translations to someone else. |

HeWhoHasNoName: What they say on the Gothic II site is that NPC memories will be better now... so it might happen,.
Violent Monk: This time the English version will - in all probability- not hit the market 6 months after the German version. We'll see . _________________ Jaz |
