Master or magister?

Here's the question. What's the difference between being a master and a magister in a great house, such as Telvanni. Which is better and why can't I find anything about this in the manual or even one of the many great FAQ's abounding on the net? Anyone know the answer?

As master, you can complete your tower, but you can never become magister.
As magister, you can complete your tower, and you become the leader of the telvanni. But, to become magister, you need to kill the current magister, but he's not too tough.

Go with magister, trust me.

Actually you'll become the Arch-magister after killing the guy but....

It's all in the details .

LOL, 2 dremora lord guards and a fireball that even 50% resisted does about 200 damage.... nope, not too tough!!!

Thanks for the advice. I wish things like this were made a little clearer in the game. Guess it's magister for me.

I dont think he is tough. You have to kill him in one of blades quests anyway. He was not tough then but I belive you should be high level when you reach that quest(blades one)

I became Arch-magister of Telvanni before I even got the quest to go to the Urshilaku camp for the main line.
So.... maybe I have tainted memory of how tough he is.

I remember having my arse handed to me more than once before I figured out how to kill him.

Same here, Dare, I was maybe level 30-40. Dunno. Bot he wasn't hard, once I learned to stay away from him, and launch death balls at him from relative safety. He raped me the first time I tried to stab him though.

He's certainly no tougher then your average static npc with magical powers.

Is Death balls the name of a spell, or just a description of your action. I just don't recall seeing it anywhere and I like the title for a spell.

Death Balls = any damage spell that works from a distance

I refer to this tactic as the dodgeball method.
