Leveling up!

I've just gained a level and i have to choose how to spend a "main stat point" (i don't know how to call it... it's the point you can assign ot str/dex/int/wis/cha/cos...). I'm playing with my wizard and i have already 19 points of intelligence... how can i find what's the difference in having a int of 19 or 20? In the manual there are not the character sheets...
Thanks

Well in my manual they are in the end, in the appendix. Besides that you should also take in consideration if you want to multiclass. I really don't think going from 19 to 20 is better than putting a point in a stat that would benefit the second class in a multiclassed character.

Increasing a stat to an even number is always a good idea. You get new bonuses on the even numbers.

Basically the formula is Truncate(stat/2) - 5 or Integer(stat/2) - 5.

So for a Str of 15 : (15/2) = 7.5 ... 7.5 truncated is 7.0 ... then 7 - 5 = +2 bonus.

heres how the third edition stats work

4= -3 penalty
6= -2 penalty
8= -1 penalty
10= average, no bonus or penalty
12= +1 bonus
14= +2 bonus
16= +3 bonus
18= +4 bonus
20= +5 bonus

and so on and so on. for wizards, the higher the intellegence, the more spells you can memorize. other than that, strength is only effective on odd numbers so you can carry more stuff. even numbers are really good, but its stupid to leave a stat on the odd number. (unless you are a fighter wearing full plate mail with 13 dex so you get the maximum of +1 dex armor and use the 13 dex to meet the requirements for certain feats.

Sorry Myrthos but in my manual there aren't any sheets in the appendix about the skill stats... just tell me the page (hoping that its' the same manual...)

btw: i've got the original English box and surprise!! In the end of the manual there are the quick start! yes... but it is written in Danish, Norwegian, Finnish and Sweden...

Well unless we are not discussing teh same subject or don't have the same manual. It's in Appendix A, page 150. It should give you some info on what the increase of INT has for you character.

If you're a mage, put that intelligence up. It will add more skill points when you level up (perk)... more importantly, as mentioned, it will give you more bonus spells to cast and make your existing spells harder for your opponent to save against.

A mage can never have too much intelligence in 3e.

Thanks all for the explanations!

@Myrthos: on the page 150 there is the sheet about how many skill points you get each level up with the modification of your int. Points that you can add to your skill list (hide, heal, parry, persuasion, taunt, search, concentration, spellcasting...) The point i'm speaking is the point you gain every 4 level and that you can add to your strengh or int... (it's the first thing you can do in your leveling up session after choosing which class you want to level up)
The question is: but they had had to call them all "skill points"!?!?!? Couldn't they have assigned different names?!?...

One is called skilled points, the other is called ability scores.

You are referring to the ability scores (see table 3 for reference). Always get more IQ for your mage, then DEX.
