I am trying for an archery character but so far have found that arrows (or bolts) do NO damage against skeletons. Currently I have level 1 in bow (no level in crossbow) and have 110 dex (level 11). Does this get better with better bows or not? If not, then how does one play an archery character with so many skeletons in the game that one MUST defeat? Obviously I can resort to a melee weapon or magic, but I would prefer to play straight archery (already did the melee thing).

Hey buddy, you need to read the manual because it says bows and crossbows are ineffective agianst skeletons because the arrows and bolts simply pss through them. You will probably be screwed as an only archery character good luck anyways.......... |

As a general guideline use :
Arrows against flesh and the Orc Hammer against bone and stone.
For undead creatures such as skeleton mages and Zombies, I can use the Orc Hammer with a bit of strength. Or spells, I haven't tried arrows or bolts against the undead.
My first game I did master crossbow, and with the desterity you mentioned I was able to take almost every creature out.

Best way to kill skeletons is...
Death do Undeath rune or scroll...
But they are probably not avalaible now for you...
