Sacred singleplayer impressions

Ive played this game 7 hours yesterday and these are my impressions so far:

Sfx, voices are great. Your character has his own voice and sometimes he will say cool comments like:"You mess with the best, then die like the rest.."

Different weapons give differents sounds when clashing against monsters. The death animations are awesome.

The game is even bigger than I expected and there are tons of subquests.TONS. New questgivers appear when you get back to old towns.

The only bad things about this game is that the DE is gimped. Dual wield only affects ordinary weapons NOT DE weapons like gauntlets. But I saw they where working for a fix on their forum.

Another thing is the weird respawn. Sometimes when you clear out a cavern and go out and in again (by mistake) the whole cavern is respawned with even more monsters. But doesnt happen all the time.

The worst thing about this game its so damn funny you canīt stop playing.

My Sacred impressions from the full version:

I've played 15 hours so far, and have a level 19 Seraphim with dual wielding swords, and a highly enhanced "attack" Character skill" (Level 10).

Sacred is in it's core Hack 'n slash, no doubt about that, But the good thing is that it is done quite well. There are 1000's of enemies in a very hugh gameworld. My immidiate thought would say at least twice the size of Divine divinity, but it may be both an "understatement" or an "overstatement". As I'm still not sure how far in the worldmap corners of Sacred you can come. But the fact is none the less that it is freaking huge (Read insane many game hours).

Now there is a ongoing main story, and for a Hack 'n slash game it is certainly okay. Without revealing to much, it's a pretty "normal" (in the fantasy world) story with intriges and betrayal etc and ofcourse you main task is to save the (game) world from the invasion horde of creatures mostly from another dimension.

Side quest are plenty, alone in chapter 1 I got and solved 72, but I could have gotten a lot more if I not had chosen eventually to follow the main quest, and push it in to chapter 2. To be fair most of the side quest are "fetch" this, "Bring" that", "Kill" this, "Escort" me to...., but the little twist is that you actually can fail some of the quest, if you approach them the wrong way.
A few of the the quests however also forces you to pick "sides" good ,evil, uncertain?

Your hunt for better and better items, is quite fun, as you all the time find a weapon or armour pieces that is a little better than the one you already got. But also the complexity of features the many weapons and armours have, sometimes gives you a tougher choice which one to choose. And make sure to look carefully through every merchants wares, because he can have rare, unique? and set - items in his stock, and you don't have to gamble to find out.

Adventuring in this game in fun, just go in the direction your nose is pointing, not regarding any main / side quests. You will then often in the beginning find yourself in deeper trouble that your to low leveled character can handle, so it really gets a nice and fun challenge even to survive.

Regarding character development, most people will from the beginning of the game plan which 8 learning skills your character should end up with after reaching level 50. Some learning skills are the same for all characters: (Trade , Riding, Agilty, Sword/axe lore, Elemental / white / moon magic, concentration, dual wielding and many more.

Each character also have 8 character specific skills / spells, which only can be learned and upgraded, if you find the corresponding, character skill rune, you upgrade the skills by finding more skill runes of the same kind, or trade skill runes of another character type for your own kind at the magician (Combo teacher). Your character skills will ofcourse get better when you upgrade them, but their replenish time do also get much longer, so it's it's not necessarily all character skill you want to upgrade right away. But through your attributes and armour/weapon features you can find means to reduce the replenish time.
There is no term called "mana" in sacred. Both character skills and spells just needs replenish time between uses.

I agree with your estimate on the possible size of this game. It certainly looks twice as large Divine Divinity.

There is a great deal of thought required in planning your characters too. All skills have utility, and it doesn't necessarily pay to have them at a higher "rank". Higher skills require longer "regeneration" times before you can use them again. But, to counter this you can train in skills that lower "regen" times . Bottomline though is you only get to choose 6 skills ever.

I'm off to play the game again. My vampiress is progressing nicely. I've liked her playstyle enough to not want to test-drive the other classes yet. I will eventually try all of them ......with Wood Elf and Battlemage likely first up.

There is reckoned to be over 100+ different monster types in game. The game is clever, in that it throws a staple of goblins, orcs and humans at you mostly. But, then out of the blue you'll venture into something an awful lot bigger. My latest surprise was a massive stone troll ( a la LOTR ) that hit like a truck. Animations are in general very good. I actually don't mind the graphics for the Dark Elf and Vampiress ...which some have contention with.

I happened to complete the game today

I wonīt give any end spoilers but the last part felt kinda lame. Must be my character was way too overpowered.

Right now I am playing my darkelf on gold difficulty,( I completed it on bronze) and I dont find very hard yet at lvl 35. The xp is very fast so I will be staying in bellevue to lvl up a bit

Even with some minor bugs (confusion, missing map info, dual wield) this game is really polished and plays extremely well. I havent had so fun in a long while.

The last unexplored area for me is multiplayer/LAN.
Has anyone tried playing it over the web or are they still trying to fix the servers?

Still fixing ...and the international patch has yet to be released.

I find I'm not levelling that fast for some reason. Really slowed down at lvl 12. I'm now at Port Draco. I find the game fun ...and a reasonably fast pace. Not too many bugs encountered so far. One or two quests that haven't "completed" properly. Sidequests that is.
