I have not used GURPS in many years, but I remember being impressed by how clean it was. The concept of my really powerful wizard (read Gandalf) being able to duke it out with Darth Vader sounded very cool to me - and the GURPS system is perfectly suited for it.

The idea struck me as soo much fun that I spent weeks designing my first campaign. It was a port of a number of other campaigns ... I had to tie a Dragaon Quest world (fantasy) with a Top Secret world (a modern day spy campaign) and a Space Opera campaign ... and employed a bunch of time travel ... very little of it voluntary at the start But every one got to use their favorite character ... no matter what game they were in Unfortunatly it was near the end of a school year, and the group never got together again after playing once or twice (finals have a nasty habit of getting in the way of fun )

Seems like a good way to try an Amber type reality (Zelazny). What do ya think?

It would be an excellent system. I am not sure how much additional goop has been published, but the time I bought into GURPS it was an unclutered set of rules with a couple of books to help you on your way to designing a game world (a Sci Fi and a couple of Fantasy books). Perfect for Amber ... where anything goes

Personally, I am really looking forward to GURPS online. GURPS is my favorite roleplaying system and I've been waiting for years for them to start making computer games. I just hope that they will offer a pure fantasy based world, in addition to others. I prefer fantasy over other genres. However, if they decide to do something dumb though and add permanent death or something, I'm going to scream. I want there to be penalties for dying in the game, but not "the ultimate penalty".

Yeah, permanent death = real life, reloading = game. If I wanted permanent death, I'd take out my longsword (I really have one) and start cleaving people I didn't like, and then get shot by the police. Otherwise, no permanent deaths!
