SWG Preview at Games Domain |
|
A preview of Star Wars: Galaxies has been posted at Games Domain. Here's an interesting part of it:

Much like Dark Age of Camelot and Anarchy Online, Galaxies creates missions on the fly. They seem to suit your character's skill levels as well. We were never offered one that was out of our league, for example. There are some set quests that tell a story as well, like Jabba's trials to prove yourself to him, but overall you're hunting various monsters, and stepping and fetching. Entertainer characters might get a quest to entertain a noble or some other visitor, and there's one funny mission that has you do the chores of some farmboy who dreams of joining the academy, so he can practice his flying skills. Unlike EverQuest, spawns are dynamic, rather than fixed. This was done to avoid people camping the Wampa (or whatever) and introduce some unpredictability to how and where monsters and aliens appear.
|

The only missions in DAOC that are dynamic are kill tasks and a few other kinds. Those are just
"go kill" [insert random monster] "to the" [insert direction]...
Pretty sad for 'quests on the fly.' Sheesh. |

"Unlike EverQuest, spawns are dynamic, rather than fixed."
Wrong.
"On the content side, we're basically adding content like mad. I laid out five dungeons (well, actually, they're underground bunkers, research outposts, Imperial prisons, that sort of thing) over the last couple of days, and we've built four of what we call surface dungeons in various places just in the past week. This is in direct response to tester demand for more static content."
Sigh. The status Quo reigns. |

No, right..
Outdoor spawns are mostly dynamic, including npc quest givers and points of interest (this is all public knowledge by the way.. ), but a large portion of the beta testers are screaming for static content, so they are adding it. The normal mob areas spawn similar to AC1 tetherpost system (although they added something in the most recent patch that made it a little less rigid).
Having both is a good thing. |
