yes, but you miss the point I put across: they are TOOLS... how we use them is how they are meant for! you can shoot a stump with a .22, and you have a stump shooter! you drop a nuke on Afganistan and you have a radioactive parking lot! oh, and I wasn't shooting Val in the head or the groin! Mdrop, you think guns should be banned, or severely restricted... well, say you are walking down a street one night, and a thug comes up with a bat and attacks you! if you had a gun, you couldda shot him, and you would have had one lest pest, but if you had no gun, you would be beaten to a bloody pulp, then robbed (and don't say ANYTHING about how you could kill/mortally wound him with a Pocket knyfe!)! which means you are soon for a slow, painful death, or you are looking at a couple months in a hospital or a long tyme in acoma! so if you were faced with something like that, which would you rather be, gun less or armed?

Well, guns are made to harm or kill living beings, like humans. They are tools made for destruction, which is a whole different thing from spoons. Besides, how many people are actually killed with spoons yearly? If you can prove me that spoons are dangerous, I could support doing something about them.
And I meant that a lot of "self-defense"-killings are accidents, where a person shoots another tenant by mistake. How many people are killed with an "empty" gun yearly?
I'd rather not be in that situation. getting armed to the teeth is not a solution to anything. I'd never want to own a gun, much less carry one around. Guns should not be allowed in the streets. And I've been attacked or threatened before, always managed to make my way out without the use of violence.
But like I said previously, I come from a country with a violence/crime rates much different from the US, so I don't have to actually worry about my safety when I'm walking in the city. But even if I did, I would never solve that fear and uncertainity by getting a gun, or even a pocket knife.. Pocket knifes, as well as guns are illegal to carry around in here, which is the way it should be.

but, the problem with saying that guns are "tools of destruction" is that the user is what is causing it to become a "tool of destruction" I can understand your dislike of guns, but if they were banned, we would soon ban knives swords, and anything we could that was deadly! I personally believe that before you can purchase a gun you should have a background check, and anyone who has served more than one month (if not less) in jail, that they shouldn't be allowed to purchase weapons...
oh, and I forget who it was who said it, but someone mentioned ppl breaking into gunshops and robbing them, well, a gunsmith (thats what you call them right?) in my area got broken in on while he was still there, and he ran into the back room, the two thieves promptly set about stealing things, then the gunsmith came back with a revolver (something that was close to illegal) and blew (quite literally) large holes in them!

I live in Finland, it's a sanctuary compared to many other western countries, although it's been getting worse in these past few years. Still our violence/crime-rates are really low compared to the US.
And I'm not demanding a complete ban on guns. I want strict guns control and background checks/mandatory safety courses etc. I'd also like a lot more safety regulaions put on stores that sell guns, they should be guarded more closely than a jewelry store.
And about the gunsmith, did he even try to call the police or threaten them with a gun, or did he just shoot them on sight? Because if he just plain shot them, I have no respect for him, he's no better from a common murderer.

Easy acces to guns always leads to more violance. You only have to have 1 mad man who uses a gun.
Then other people get guns to defend against that person and are more likely to use those guns.
Contry's with acces to guns have a higher crime rate then county's without acces to guns.
Some people that are mad grab a gun. If you are mad you don't drive into town find a illigal person ask for a gun and then still go kiling.

@Black Fang : any idea how hard it would be to kill someone with a spoon.
Compare that with how easy it is to kill someone with a gun.
Your last post you seemed in favor of strickt gun control too, well I'm with you. I think (as I have posted earlier) that every person owning a gun should at least be teached how to use it and practise every month. That way you will prevent a lot of those "empty" guns accidents.
Your story could also be different, Imagine this:
You walk down the street it's twighlight (Is this correct?, I meant on the verge of getting dark) you 're walking in a district you don't know that well and getting a little uncomftable, nervous, you think you start hearing footsteps behind you and put your hand on the gun you have been wearing all day. Suddenly someone reaches around you from behind, you get frightend, pull your gun and turn around and fire. The person who was speaking up behind you falls , you can finally see it's face and notice it's your best friend trying to suprise you.
Ok I know it's not very likely to have and maybe a bit exagerated but if you have untrained people running around with guns things like this will happen; Training civilians (not criminals off course) who own guns will prevent a lot of accidents.

see know I agree with that, gun restrictions SHOULD be stiff, it is just that they could be stolen, purchased illegally, or many other things! that is why the US government doesn't do anything!
