Is Thief 3 going to be any good?

Here is a link to a rather lengthy thread on the Eidos Thief 3 message board where people are talking about whether or not the game will live up to its name, or whether it will be just another example of PC gamers having a console game jammed down their throats. I enjoyed reading most of the posts in the debate, and thought I'd put up a similar post here. Personally, I think Thief 3 is going to suck. I just don't think it's possible to develop a really good game for simultaneous release on PC and console. What say you?

I think it *can* be done - but whether this is the title to do or not, I don't know. Actually, I have more faith in this dev team than the DX:IW team lead by Harvey Smith and I think the idea of being able to roam the city in between missions is exactly what I'd like to see, if they pull it off. On the other hand, I doubt the engine will perform much better so I don't expect too much on the technical side.

I agree with Dhruin on the free-roaming town aspect. I really think this will add to the atmosphere. This will make the game more immersive. I love Thief1&2. I also like console games like Tenchu...which predates Thief. I really don't want to use a 3rd person perspective like Tenchu though...cause that would not feel like Thief at all. The one "console" addition that I think even you PC-only junkies may really dig is force-feedback lockpicking. That is realism that slamming a digital key(binary on and off) is never gonna give you. Personally, I think this will be better than the early games.

I have seen many screenshots...but are there any video-clips of actual gameplay? Where might I find these video-clips?

No-one's going to know til the game's out. From what I've read and seen so far, I'm not worried. On paper, pretty much all of the changes I've heard about seem like good ideas. It's just a matter of balance and execution. And considering the game is now complete and the rest of development is for tweaking, they should have enough time to get it right.

I can't bear to read the Ion Storm or Eidos forums, they are the lands that reason forgot. People will complain about anything, they're even moaning about the new blue-ness of dark areas.

Thanks. These are the first gameplay clips I have ever seen for this game. Been looking for some since E3.

Right now I am replaying Thief:Dark Project. Is Gold worth playing?
