SWG: Casey Keefe Interview @ MMORPG.com

MMORPG.com speaks with Casey Keefe, the Community & Press Relations Manager at LucasArts responsible for Star Wars Galaxies, about the past, present, and future of SWG.
MMORPG.com: Tell us about Star Wars Galaxies how it stands today. What would a new player who has no experience with SWG find if they logged in today?

Casey Keefe: A new player will definitely find the game much easier to get into than before, as well as a much more compelling and story-driven adventure. We have taken a tutorial-style approach and integrated it into the first ten levels of the game, so that while the player is learning how to play, they are also leveling. For players searching for a true role-playing adventure steeped in Star Wars fiction, they have come to the right place.

MMORPG.com: Recently, server population numbers circulated online that someone allegedly uncovered. Can you comment on the accuracy of these numbers?

Casey Keefe: We never have and never will comment in regards to subscriber and player numbers.

This line says it all:

MMORPG.com: You acknowledged in your last producer letter that one major flaw with the NGE’s introduction was broken content and that it was your goal to fix that. How did this happen in the first place?

Casey Keefe: No comment.

No comment. Still the same arrogant asshats even when the ship is sinking. I will definitely never return to this game, I went back a few times during its run, but there is nothing that will make me play it again (well... unless they let me play for free But even then, I have better things to do with my time).

Pretty much what I expected from a PR guy, dodge anything that makes you squirm and keep spouting garbage about how great it's going to be!

I keep following SWG because it is just so amazing how they gutted the original design instead of fixing it, and pasted on this FPS. I left it long ago, because the original design, although fantastic, was never truly realized.. maybe the database design was inadequate, the game engine too complex.. we may never know the truth, Raph Koster dodges any questions about it, and he is the one who knows what went wrong.

I can't fault the current SWG development team, the original team couldn't solve most of the issues either. No need to go over all the issues, anyone who has played knows them, but the difference between SWG then and now, is just so huge, it's not the same game at all.

It's a shame it never became the game it started to be. It could have owned it all, instead of World of Raidcraft, it had that much potential. Now it's a 'starving for affection, red-headed stepsister' and I don't think it's ever going to shine again.
