Once you learn how to skin fur, do you just automatically loot fur from the applicable creatures? Or do you need knife, or need to do something special to the corpse?
I got the fur skinning one, and so far I havent looted any furs.
Regarding sneaking, how exactly do you use it most effectively? The guy told me to do it when no one is looking, but some places, that is never. But, ideally, are you just supposed to get out of someones view, and then sneak into their hut or whatever?
Thanks

If you have the skill, and you kill a creature that can be skined, you just check the corpse like you would any defeated ememy. But if you just started and are killing only molerats and scavengers there's nothing you can take from them but their meat.
There isn't much use for sneaking in the game, your better off spending the skill points elsewhere. |

Each creature in the game yields different things - you must have all the skills to get everything possible from all creatures you kill.
Yes, the best is to start sneak when not in view of the npcs then sneak into the hut. However, you should be aware that sometimes (if they are too close) they will spot you anyway. It isn't worth the points unless you just get off on sneaking .

Sneaking's worthless for other than getting Fingers' attention. The whole purpose of it is so you can sneak into huts at night while the guy is sleeping without waking him up. What's the point? Just beat him silly and get double the reward.

How to do them best?
Don't.
Sneaking and skinning are skill points WASTED.
You'll get plenty of money by beating up people and robbing them, making both these skills basically useless.
Spend your points on strength and weapon skills. Early in the game, you have to beef up to defend yourself and get goods/ore.
Skill points in Gothic are just too precious to waste on meaningless skills like skinning and sneaking. |

Thanks for the advice all. I am not too far in, maybe I will restart.
The only reason I got sneak was to get a vote from Fingers. Is Pickpocket a better choice? Lockpick seems useless.

You don't need his vote. Pickpocket is even more worthless because the npcs you might want to pickpocket - they have made totally immune to pickpocket.

I think it was 4 vote, out of 5 quests you can receive from all the shadows.
I learned sneak to get the full collection of the things you can do in the game. It only serve me one time, get into room next to the second guard of the main gate of OC.
And it is funny move.

yeah, that's why I took the skill, to get the vote, yay, wasted 10 skill points for about 100 experience points (stares at the sky).
