Gothic 3: Interview With Mike Hoge @ WoG (German)
   

Also on World of Gothic is a 'Gothic III' <a href="http://www.worldofgothic.de/gothic3/index.php?go=interview8" target="_blank">interview</a> with Piranha Bytes' Mike Hoge. The interview was held at the soundtrack recording session this week (see newsbit below this one) and is so far only available in German (an English translation should follow as soon as the WoG crew finds the time to do a translation).

Shortly before the orchestra receptions to the G3-Soundtrack, with which we were allowed to attend a reception-session, WoG had also yet the opportunity to conversed with Mike Hoge over the Gameplay, Skills and the different "Perks" in Gothic 3. All what follows now, presentations that Mike Hoge clarified us are. How far these are integrated already firmly into the Gameplay or whether they are realized in the end generally so or perhaps yet somewhat differently, withdraws itself naturally our knowledge. Nevertheless it lasts yet its time before the game will be finished.

Would call and Perks

Confessed is yes already the alignment of the gladiator. Here one becomes as a player renown and honor in Orkarenen gather can. Possibly the advantage of this occupation exists yes in an improvement of the near battle capacities. In any case wants to increase respect Piranha bytes in Gothic 3 on that to bind the so-called occupations better into the Gameplay. It was in Gothic 2 for example yet totally independent of the Handling of the game, which the offered occupations (like smith in Harad or Alchimist in Constantino) one selected in the game progress, the choice of the occupation should have in Gothic 3 effects also real on the capacities of the character. As an example, Mike cited the occupation of the hunter. In Gothic 2, one can itemize as the only advantage an apprenticeship in Bosper the better price for furs sold with it. Its ideas for the hunter in Gothic 3 clarified us Mike as follows: if one killed a copy in the game progress of each animal-species, one could get yet the task of a hunter, could succumbed a very rare animal to. After then also this task is mastered, one would enjoy not only the respect of the client, but rather the reward would exist in an improvement of a Skills, a so-called Perk, learns for example one now as a reward for the fulfilled task of client an especially effective type of the archery or anything comparable. Perhaps the hunter brings the character also somewhat totally other in.) Therefore the choice of an occupation would have effects also direct on the capacities of the character, that plays itself therefore according to choice of the occupation differently. The player will be able to learn several occupations so that one in the end very individually can form its capacities.


Parliamentary groups and magician

Character studies a further eligible occupation that of the magician will be by the way. Next to the Perks bound more into the Gameplay, also the guilds that now parliamentary groups are named will represent itself, differently, than yet in Gothic 2. Here the maxim is: cheek to the roots! The single parliamentary groups will lean themselves of the construction here again more at the guild out of the first part of the Gothic-Saga. And to be sure in regard on that that one joined, if the players of a parliamentary group, within this either as a warrior or for example also into the magic direction develop can. Therefore a player who would like to play gladly a warrior character is not forced, into a certain parliamentary group, is, that felled it by the "political" alignment perhaps not at all, but the only, in which one can develop a correct fighter. Also very at the Gameplay in Gothic 1 is leaned the decision that one will be able to change also during the game yet the alignment its character. So also a kampfbetonter character Magierskills can learn and can change therefore the development direction of the character also yet in the course of the game. And not only within the coarse classification of the character are the boundary fluently. There will be no clear separation of the single magic directions also in Gothic 3, what concerns the applicability through the player. So one becomes also further as a fire magician with the sayings of the water magician or Beschwörungszaubern manipulate can. Through it so much freedom in the Gameplay wants to give Piranha bytes of the player, like only possible. The character is not supposed to be restricted through one to strongly subdivided Skillbaum under development. So is avoided also, that itself the player "verskillt".

Sword and spear

Member of the deserts people is new also that in Gothic 3 the control of a Skills is indicated no longer in that yet to Gothic 2-times usual percent value. Instead one does not control either a capacity or one controls it. Thereto comes that for example sword battle is no longer simple sword battle, but rather one learns different part aspects of the sword wing and improves so its general sword battle capacities gradually. Mike led the battle with two swords, the battle with sign and sword as examples or determined Moves on. All thing that one respectively individually can learn with a couple Lernpunkten. Also that runs out therefore like already the Perks on that to individualize the character more in that one equips it with an entirely certain selection at capacities and Perks. At the set up show walls, there was, to admire by the way a draft drawing with different signs. Especially interestingly a sign, that with a type groove for inserting a spear was equipped, caused at the same time. Beside it a drawing of the sign in action. Like the heavily armed Hopliten the Greek antique, that already 2500 years ago a similar technology used in that they inserted its spear in Aussparungen of its signs in the attack, can fight the character therefore with inserted spear and sign if this draft is realized.

Special Moves and animations

We know workman out of Nordmar end Gothic and Gothic 2 all the usual flow of a battle. The character strikes either blocks to the left, to the right, from above or it. The animations shown at the same time are always the same. For Gothic 3 wants to increase Piranha bytes of the amount of the animations so that each blow is not represented by to the left with the same movements. Thereto Special Moves that show again other animations come. It was in Gothic 2 yet so that one got the sword first with both hands and became the movements with increasing control degree more fluidly and more elegantly, the animations in the battle should depend in Gothic 3 on the movement, therefore of the type of the Moves. The more one therefore learned has will show, the more different battle animations the character. Specially in the animations, there will be strong improvements in the total game. This will affect also or above all the movements of the NSC in conversations. So should intended for certain sentences also, executes become suitable gestures the respective statements, what will give certainly another push forward to the credibility of the world. (End of the air grasped example: in the sentence "you came from there over there" shows a NSC into a certain direction.) In Gothic 2, the NSC in the conversation executed everyone yet more or few the same standard gestures.
