Great Game, Has some bugs but I am finding it extreamy fun. One bug I am encountering right now could be a pain but isn't. I am in Isle clearing it out and maybe I am weaker than I should be. Some of the creatures really hurt me. When I rest if a creature tries to interupt my sleep I am kicked back to my desktop. This has happened in no other area. Does not bother me because I am resting because I am almost dead, and I could not defeat another wraith.
Some things I would do different.
1. Put extra points in accuracy at start.
spoiler on getting more artifacts and duplicates. Learned from the keep problem.
The Knife one gets in the house, Go into mini saves delete all files for house and renter and do chest again. A assaisin duel wielding those knifes is cool.

In spite of the crappy reviews, except for Rend's comments which were pretty good, I bought the game. Any M&M fan would love this game, the graphics are not the best, and the game was obviously not finished or polished in some areas, but it is Might & Magic, and I am enjoying this much more than the last two in the series.
You know it is good when you can't stop playing it. |

I agree. You know a game is good when you can not put it down...just like a book.
Once one gets over the new interface and off the initial Isle, this game is M&M - no question. It has the right feel, a tad unfinished, but still the it "feels" like M&M. |

A little dull in the beginning; but later on it gets pretty good |

I think M&M IX is a lot of fun but I'm in Arlsgard (spelling?) right now and I have to admit that the game is beginning to feel a little bit long in the tooth. It's starting to develop that feeling of sameness that seems to plague so many games.
I also have problems with bugs, one in particular for me is clearing out an area too early and finding that a cut scene needed something that is no longer there. That's it! The scene tries to load, freezes my game and I have to kill the process to get out of it. My quick save is unusable so I have to reload my last hard save before that area and make sure I don't go to it before the cut scene. There's no way, at least for me, to tell which areas are like that until it happens and I have to start the whole process over. That bug is way, way worse than anything I ever encountered in Gothic. I don't think you can call a game "Relatively bug free" when it includes great big show stoppers like this, even if it was the only (which it isn't) bug! _________________ ''Perhaps I'm old and tired but I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied. This has to be the buggiest game I have ever played, I did manage to get all my characters promoted. I never did get the Crusader promotion, but I got Mercenary, Scholar, and Healer.
Gig, I had the bug you described in the mines, when you break that wall, and that female creature is there, I froze during the cutscene, I had to adjust my sound hardware acceleration in dx8 diag. to get it to finally play the text. That is also the area where the ship captain poofed, I thought he took a few days off, but it turned out he was bugged.
Had to delete files in the mini save folder to fix that.
All in all, I am still enjoying the game, I just hope I won't have to fight another monster bug, because it ruins my fun playing.....But I know I will.. |

Hi Black_Lord,
Since you are experiencing bugs similar to mine I'll warn you about one that is really fresh in my mind.
Don't and I mean do NOT enter the Tomb of a Thousand Terrors before you are given the mission to do it. That's all I'll say so as not to spoil anything but, suffice to say, that mistake set me back four hours of game play. It was my own fault for not saving enough, even though I knew better, but it was still frustrating--watch out for it. _________________ ''Perhaps I'm old and tired but I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied. Hello Gig.
After playing this game for 40 hours and fighting bugs, I never go anywhere unless I am quested for it. It really isn't like a Might & Magic game because in the old days we could go anywhere, without worry of finding a place where we shouldn't be, well unless we shouldn't be.
Thanks for the advice though, anyone that plays this game needs it to fight the horrible bugs. |

That's not 100% accuate. Playing as the dark side in MM7 there was a problem with the Lich Jars. I was really bummed that I could not fufil the Lich promotion...so much so that I never did complete 7 as the dark side.
I also recall something similar in 6, but I'll be darned if I can put my finger on it, but I believe it had something to do with the memory nodes and one of the larger dungeons. |

The first part SUCKS, and the graphics are poor too. But it will improve. a LOT. |

Had the same experience. I fired MM7 up a few weeks before MM9 was released. Game update pulled down a patch. In checking the readme file, the patch supposedly fixed the soul jar problem. Either I didn't have that patch installed that time thru the game (hard to believe), they issued a new patch a year or two after the game was released (even harder to believe), or the patch didn't actually fix the problem (kind of a reach, too). For what it's worth, some day soon I'll get nostalgic again and we'll find out once and for all what's up with the dark side. |

dteowner,
If you do get nostalgic, let me know if the patch works, and how the dark side turns out. I was terrible dissapointed I couldn't finish the dark side years ago, I'd love to know how the story turns out. |

I can answer that for you now if you'd like. I bought the strategy guide after I won the game the first time to see what I'd missed. I still plan to replay the game sometime just to see the dark ending, but here's the scoop:
HUGE MM7 SPOILER BELOW!!!!!!
Resurectra (good side) builds the Gate of the Ancients and links Erathia to the rest of the universe. Kastore (dark side) uses the oscillation over-thruster to build a machine the replicates blasters making his forces unstoppable. |

dteowner,

I had to edit out a reference to the spoiler...sorry about that. |
