I am a long time strategy and war gamer and in all my years of playing, Gothic is my very first real RPG game I played. Part of the reasons asking if I am on the right track comes from how one should approach playing such games. Here’s where I am at...
I am playing my first game using Jemy’s helpful walkthrough. Since being a Warrior makes sense to me, I went that route in becoming a Guard from the OC. Here are my basic stats:
Level: 15
Strength: 70
Weapon: Scar’s Sword 85
Dexterity: 41
Weapon: Light Crossbow (have Scar’s Crossbow 100 but must be at 55 to use)
Mana: 5
1h: level 1 training
2h: none
Sneaking: yes
Lockpicking: yes
Magic: no
Skill points: 20
Ores: tens of thousands worth of stuff in inventory
I have just easily completed the Orc Cemetery part and now have to go back and report to Raven at the OC (I think this is the end of Chapter 3).
If I continue on like this, will it get me to a winning conclusion? Jemy talks a lot about saving skill points, I have found that I must use every bit of it to my two skills in order to be assured of success. Do I need get better at (or do anything with) magic? Besides learning 2h, what must I concentrate on? Thanks.

It´s better than good.
If you continue like this you will find the game incredibly easy. You´d better not use the FAQ for the rest of the game.
You need to use some scrolls for a few quests, so it could be a good idea to spend 15-25 skillpoints in mana. Invest the rest in all those warrior skills. |

Use the FAQ only if you're completely stuck or completed the game, otherwise you're cheating urself from a sweet experience

You're better than me with my Sword of Fear. But then again, I never go to battle without a little rice schnapps. After that, well, I'll cram my Sword of Fear up anyone's arse.

i cant help but comment that sneaking was a HUGE waste... pickpocketing and snkeaing are very worthless since you can mug ne1 you want a little bit later. those points would have been better spent in Mana even though you are a warrior. later you get runes of teleport that are EXTREMELY useful and will save you a lot of walking. you'll be sorry when you have to rest between uses (each one takes 5 mana).
taking the warrior path, make sure you get 2handed weapons. not everyone agrees on this, some ppl say 1h are better but i like 2h more then 1h cos they do a helluva lot more damage, plus thier range is nearly doubled. |
