@ Lannister: What Gorath said plus Joysoft and PCFun . They all import US games. I prefer Okaysoft as well. Good service. Even replied to an e-mail from me on a Sunday and are very reliable and fast. |

Indeed, but yet other major sites like EBGames and Gamestop have no problems with it at all.

My best guess is that Amazon is just simply 1) trying to avoid in-house competition and 2) legal troubles.
1) Avoiding in-house competition makes it easier for them to figure out revenues based on territory.
2) We have many many different countries all with different laws in the world. For example, in Germany we got this new video game law since a few months which basically prohibits the sale and advertising of *any* game from outside Germany (unless the buyer proves s/he's age 18+). Without going too much into detail, you got similar regulations in a lot of countries and I think that makes it hard for a huge company like Amazon to deal with these differences. Actually almost impossible to totally prevent breaking some law if you would ship worldwide with no restrictions.
I think the answer is a mix of no. 1 and no. 2 because obviously EB Games and Gamestop don't care about no. 2. They ship to just about every country in the world but they also make it very clear that it's your risk whether the package gets to you or gets confiscated at customs.
And last but not least there are certain publishers who are threatening retailers with taking legal action if they import/export games. Activision does. I guess they just sort of tolerate what EB Games and Gamestop are doing. Maybe Amazon is a little more afraid of Activision? Who knows?  |
