Have I Missed Something..??? |
|
Guys,
Just a quick question about CRPG's.
I want to know if there is a decent game that I have missed??
I realise that there may be some little gems that do not get the high profile afforded to some more commercial offerings.
Are there some that I have missed that you guys would recommend..??
I have got/played the following:-
All of the BG & IWD series + add-ins
Divine Divinity
Gothic
Morrowind + Tribunal
Fallout 1 & 2
Arcanum
Arx Fatalis
May be some shareware gems that you find are worthwhile.
Thanks for your time,

Well there is Planescape Torment if you haven't played it you should definetly try. It's just lik Baldurs Gte but the story is much more complicated, and when you start playing you just can't stop

Darklands! While old, it is a GREAT game. Full of atmosphere and challenge. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Ach! You have me there. A while ago (around May 2002) we had a discussion here about it. It seems you can by a CD version of the game...but I haven't the time to search for the links. The original producer was Microprose.
Hope that helps ... if I can scrape together 10 minutes or so I'll try searching for you. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Okay I found the link! It was quicker than I thought.
Click me
I tried it out and it seems to be active.
PS - Sorry about the double post. I must be getting lazy. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Nobody mentions Wizardry8?
Lintra doesn't mention Might & Magic 6 and 7?
All three are pretty easy to find and well worth the $30 or so they'll cost. If you're a graphics nut, they might not get it done for you, but if you're looking for fun gameplay, any of those three are likely to suck you in for many, many hours. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Sorry. No pearls of wisdom in this oyster.

Consider trying Wizardry 8. It is a truly nice game. If you can live with not-so-Morrowind-style-graphics and enjoy playing with many interesting and unusual stats you will like it. Storyline is pretty good, too. In fact I would even go so far as to say that it is one of the best CRPGs in recent years. I think Sirtech is offering a demo to download, so you can try it for free.
EDIT: @dteowner - I just was typing this post about Wiz8. |

HOW could I forget!! I guess I was stuck thinking about "classics" in the sense of *old*.
dte is correct, these are all three great RPGs (although I think Darklands is better if you are looking for an open ended type of game where you can play anyway you want - and the tactical combat is so very different from most other turn based RPGs). _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

I'll put in the shareware recommendations, since it hasn't been done yet.
There are 3 pretty good shareware games that have been released in the
last few years. Two of them are by Jeff Vogel of Spiderweb Software. I think the link is http:\\www.spidweb.com but I forget how to make ubb make it a link. Those games are Geneforge and the Avernum series. Geneforge is a fantasy crpg with a neat twist. You are from a race called Shapers. Shapers have the unique ability to create lifeforms. These lifeforms will then learn and grow more powerful as they evolve. You basically create your own party
one at a time instead of rolling up a bunch of characters. Avernum is basically a rewritten and expanded version of Jeff's classic Exile series. Jeff polished the graphics somewhat and greatly increased the amount of polish
on the game itself. My final entry would be a game called Prelude to Darkness by Zero Sum software. It's the prettiest graphically of the shareware offerings. It has an interesting combat and magic system and
is definitely worthy of a look. I wrote a review for it somewhere in this forum,
so take a look at it if you're interested. _________________ 'nut |

WIZARDRY 8! That game was so good. Here's hoping that somehow they're able to make Wizardry 9 (doubtful).
Um, what about Neverwinter Nights? I know it wasn't everyone's favorite, but once I got passed all my preconceived notions as to what the game would be, I really enjoyed it. It was one of those games that made me stay up until 3 in the morning playing without realizing it. |

I'm assuming that if you played all of the BGs and their addons you must have liked them. Same with Fallout 1&2. If that's the case I'd like to add another vote for the game I am now finally getting around to playing: Planescape Torment! I tried it once about a year ago and never got into it but now I'm hooked and hope to finish it.
Wizardry 8 is one of my all time favorites and I'd recommend that too, but Planescape seems like a sure thing based on what you've liked so far. |
