I'm new to Gothic

I just bought Gothic today as a gift to myself for finishing up with finals. I wanted something like Morrowind, but not boring like Morrowind. I like what I see so far. I have a few basic questions. Is there an official patch to it. I have version 1.08j. Also, is there a way to quicksave? Thanks for your time.

There is a patch, but as the old saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
The patch addresses occasional crashes during gamestart under Win98. It fixes this problem on Radeon 7500, Radeon 8500 and GeForce 3 cards. If you don't have these problems, don't use it. If you do, then you can get the patch here on good old GothicDot.
As for a quicksave, I don't remember it having one. Just remember to save in a different slot before touching a winch. You'll be safer for it!

Welcome.

Part 2 has (unsupported) quicksave.

I support what Val said. The English Gothic includes all German patches. Only use 1.08k if you have the mentioned problems.

There are still a few serious bugs, and they come without warning. Rotate your save slots and most of them are harmless.

If you have a fast machine you can ramp up the graphics even more with the console.
