I'm wondering if the German demo download is worth the time? I don't have dsl or t1. I have you standard 56k modem. I was just wondering if any of you downloaded it. BTW, i don't understand one word of German. Should i still try to download it? |

I beg to differ. If you don't understand german, there is not much sense in downloading the german demo. It's a RPG, after all - and you won't know what you are doing...

I have to agree with Rendelius. If you don't understand the language then it's not worth it.
If it was a demo of about 50 or 60 MB then I'd say yes. Just to see how it feels and looks, but since it's A LOT bigger then that (about 250MB) I would advice you to wait on the English Demo.
Can't be long now before it will be released to the public - they've sent it to several gamesites already for reviewing so things are definatly moving in the right direction!

Well, if dear Torsten doesn't announce a publisher my Monday evening, I will call him and grill him to tell me a name

Note: announcing a publisher for the english version doesn't necessarily mean that there will be a public english demo (at least this is what I understood from Torsten's mail).

Gothic is defently worth a look, but there is a lot of german talk in the demo, and the voice acting is actual quite good, but to understand it, makes a big difference. |

I downloaded the demo, and I don't speak a bit of German. I don't play it. I do have a cable modem, but beyond running it a couple of times I don't play it. Just wait for the English version. Not understanding anything is a big hinderance <: |

I agree with Stiletto. I downloaded the huge German demo and can´t play much of it, because of the language. Is not only if you umnderstand or not the conversations, but the game is very much keyboard oriented, so you'll have a hard time to know how to do things.

I have definately had the same problems with the keyboard. You can figure out what some stuff does, but I could not figure out how to pick things up <: If you had DSL or something, I wouldn't think twice about it. It took me about an hour to download it. Would probably take a couple of days downloading at 56k <: Not to mention losing link with the file. |

Actual if you do understand some german, it's still a hard time to figure out all the commands.
f.eks. The pick up of things, and fighting, is both combinations between mouse and keyboard commands (Hold LMB down, and press the keyboard command for "forward" or left/rigth)They can be quite triggy to figure them all out yourself.
But the game still has a lot of interesting things speaking for it!

Gee, I don't know why I couldn't figure out how to pick things up! I should have figured it was holding the LMB and pushing forward! Seems trivial now that I think about it. Its no fun if you can't pick up the pick and go whack someone. |

Trivial maybe, when you know it, but not the most common used commands for picking up things.
BTW, I like the way things in your inventory is grouped automatically. |
