I love dteowner's view on role playing vs power gaming. As a synthetic organic chemist, I of course have Alchemy as a major skill. As for levelling up, I am playing one of those mods (MW advanced(?)) that need 12 skill increases for a level increase, but balance that with the capability to get +6 to an attribute. MW Advanced (or whatever) and another mod I play both significantly increase the cost of training; putting it well beyond the reach of low level characters. I power game the first 8 levels by practicing miscellaneous skills, e.g. wearing lots of medium armour and killing things with knives, axes and maces (with Hvy armour and Long blade being my main wpn/armour skills). At level 9, I have a fairly capable character and go to MW 3X (since getting nearly invincible too early has been a problem with previous characters and with BM, Tribunal and 131 mods, there is a lot of game to enjoy). I play pretty straight from that point, to avoid the invincibly bored syndrome, although always with 2 attributes in mind (3rd attribute increase is luck). The only training I buy is the stuff that is almost impossible/unbearably slow/brutally non-roleplaying (Armorer, Speechcraft come immediately to mind, with the occasional point in Security). Now in my mid-20s (level-wise), 2 attributes in the 90s, one in the 80s and the rest in the low 50s to high 60s. But the main point is that with the difficulty at 125, the game is still very much a challenge (although I would dial it up some more except that pythons(!) still kill me at least as often as I kill them). I powergame to get past the point of dieing frequently/can't go anywhere ASAP, then roleplay to maximize the enjoyment factor. _________________ Virtual Adventurer Ranger |
