Trying to apprentance with the Smith, he wants me to kill an Orc and bring him his weapon. I have been all over and cannot find an Orc, what am I missing??

There are a few orcs around the city.
Try finding a hunter in the city (dont know his name anymore) but his around that little place where you can get free beer.
Ask him to hunt with you after that follow him and he will bring you to an orc. |

There are a couple of ways to resolve this quest:
#1 you can exit the city gate going toward lobart's farm (Xardas' tower as well) and veer to the right entering the wooded area along the side of the city walls. There is an orc scout in this wooded area. You can (if you're not stong enough at this point and you really shouldn't be) take bartok along to this area under the guise of hunting wolves. He will go for 50 gold pieces and you can talk him into venturing far enough into this area to encounter the orc scout I am speaking of.
#2 you can exit the city gate which leads toward akil's farm and take the first left heading toward the lighthouse and as the road starts to steepen up the hill veer left into the wooded area, there is a cave in this region which has an orc weapon just lying there you can take and give to Harad the smith. (note: there are bandits in this cave if you venture deeper inside so beware!)
Remember he said "Bring me an orc weapon!" not "Go kill an orc and bring me his weapon!"

You can also buy an orc weapon from a mercenary. don't know the name anymore. he is always in the same room as Lee

And you can find one near Xardas old tower in the valley of mines. lol

A cheaper way to take down the Orc scout is to go a little further down the forest until you find a shadowbeast, get the beast to follow you towards the orc
let the two of them fight and simply take out the wounded winner

enter the foerst in on the way to akil's farm(on the side of the path) just keep running and u'll get to a cave with an orc warrior in it

there is an even easier way to get an orc weapon.When you leave the city from the east gate turn left( where you will also find most of the herbs you will need for the alchemist) there is a cave there occupied by two bandits. You will find an orc skeleton, the much needed axe, and a very scenic altar inside |

You can still get to become a citizen without Haraud's approval. You can still get experience points if you bring him an orc weapon later.

Or, you can ask him to lover the challenge and he'll ask you to kill a few bandits that mugged a merchant from the market. They can be found by heading from Akil's farm towards Khornis, but not going down the stairs, but continuing to the woods, and then check a cave on the left. If you proceed somewhat further from this point, you'll encounter an Orc Elite, who will probably cause "A Great Challenge".

Be sure to have the quest from the weapons dealer Hakon before asking Harad to get the quest to kill the bandits. This way you can do two quest at once. If you first ask Harad, Hakon will not give you the quest anymore
