The thing I liked most about Gothic compared to other games I've played, was the amount of spoken text.
How much of the text will be spoken in Gothic 2?

Some things will never change - the conversations in Gothic II are spoken too.

a) The newsbits on RPGDot and GothicDot are up. This thread could see some more posts over the day.
b) All developers who would like to have their own avatar & title can contact me for details.
1. What about loading times?
2. Will combat with multiple enemies be easier to handle in G2? _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

We don't know if there will be an MOD-Kit for Gothic II.

Gorath: Carsten tweaked the loading/saving - it's fast enough now. And yes, it will be easier to fight against multiple enemies (if you are strong enough =)

Will you be using different voice actors for the Western version of GII? Can you imagine how bad Lord of the Rings would have sounded if the actors had used harsh American accents? It just doesn’t work well in fantasy settings - please consider using English voice actors for GII!
Thankyou!

I disagree. If they change the voice actors for the 2nd game then how do they explain that everyones voices changed all of the sudden? If you played both games back to back, it would be very strange to have different voices in the second game. |

there will be more than one mood in gothic 2, since we included also the
old world, which has a different atmosphere than the new world.
(we also worked on the oldworld, so its not the very same, basically
there are new textures everywhere)
but i can say to you, that the new world has a very "real" atmosphere.
not to sad and dark. and not to happy.
as you see in the screenshots, the sky is not so cloudy. the textures
are not so monotonous and the people are not so hopeless.
in fact everything seems to be ok _________________ Sascha Henrichs

I too would prefer english voiceacting, but there is one aspect of complication on that matter though.
It would seem rather peculiar that villagers and townsmen who grew up the very same village should have different accents.
My suggestion, and desire is that traders, travellers, foreigners and the like should have english accents. Maybe even the propertied classes.
Finally, as a matter of course, some foreigners should posses a foreign accent.
Voice acting is a very important aspect of the game, and should therefore be considered thorough.
But I am sure that this is your very intention too. _________________ Thou shallt not kill |

Greetings!
Firstly, I would like to say that I'm a huge fan of Gothic and I eagerly await the sequel!
I am an artist for Bethesda Softworks and had the privilege of working on the recently released Morrowind. (Shameless plug, sorry During the course of development, I was pleasantly surprised last fall with the US release of this most excellent game and have been incessantly hyping it up (as well as Gothic 2) to my fellow team members whenever I have the opportunity. With it's depth, immersion, freedom and atmosphere, Gothic has secured a lofty perch in my list of all time favorite games like Ultima VII, Thief: TDP etc. etc. Thanks for making a tremendous game. I have been heavily influenced by Gothic and we will without a doubt look to it and Gothic 2 for inspiration in the future!
On to the questions:
In Gothic 2, will the weather and sky system be updated in any way? Will weather play a greater role in the game and will NPCs respond to the current weather in any way?
Will Gothic 2's mouselook system allow for more traditional FPS style behavior (the camera being 'locked' to the mouse) or will it retain the slightly delayed, trail-like movement of Gothic? (where the player would move the mouse, then the camera moves afterwards)
Thanks again!

Greetings fabulous Gothic team! This is really an honor to be able to speak with you here.
I just recently started Gothic 1 again and I totally love the atmosphere in the game and the world that really looks like it LIVES (unlike Morrowind for example).
I have basically two questions/concerns:
1. Will the world be atleast as interactive as it it was in Gothic 1. Also the Day/night cycle was great in Gothic 1, it really makes the world look like it is living. People sleep during nights and work during days.
2. You mentioned that the engine is not based on GF3/4 so older gfx cards will be able to run it flawlessly. That is great! However, as one having a modern computer with gfx power I'd like to ask if the gfx engine will give any graphical extras for us? (e.g. gf3/4 pixel shading effects, extra detail, etc).
Oh, good luck with your project! _________________ =Moderator of General MMORPG talk forum=

How is the "end of the world" handled? Ocean? Mountain? Bigger Barrier? _________________ Make good choices. |

Gothic started off really nice and open ended, then a few chapters down the road, it got incredibly linear. Will Gothic 2 be like that as well?
Please say no. |
