It was on on a cold dark friday night, i could hear the rain lashing at the windows, i turned on my pc and logged in to rpgdot, i was in a vacant/pensive mood, i'm not sure why but once again i read through this 'cromanin found' thread, i felt a strange sadness, a feeling of incompleteness of something close to my heart and mind that may be gone forever. I recalled earlier posts by dear helpful friend Squeek - ever faithful, and rasmuslarsen - strong of mind and direction, and megadav a keen gothic fan of conviction, a teardrop came into my eyes, i had deserted them and others in mid-stream.
Within minutes this beautiful and original gothic game was installed, once more i was running down the hill towards the old camp, once more back with vengeance, like a pheonix rising from the ashes, - - - - "i will find the old man" - - - "i shall have my revenge"

What friggin difference does it make if the quest exists or if this is a big hoax. MANY people got to play this great game again. Now for MY opinions...

WM is either Wulf, or he is likely close to the dev team. It is "possible" that the quest exists, and the devs wanted their easter eggs found, so we hear from WM....and they could certain afford a new PC as a prize.

I like Wulf, hoax or not.

I find it odd that someone other than Wulf recently found the old man, the stairs, everything, but NO ONE mentioned it again. He even claimed to have a save game...notta peep outta anyone asking about it, or requesting a screen.

http://www.rpgdot.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=55478&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=270

Killerofevils II "Well wulf, I looked at the cliff your talking about and plain enough was stairs, I went down and saw the Old guy but still have no idea what he wants me to do. That old guy is mega confusing I'll look at it some more on Saturday and be sure to state your opinion on my idea of a Fable forum if you've played it."

A few new things have been found during all of this, like the switch, the stone golem at the old monastary(at least that's my understanding), so some value has come from this thread.

Another things has come from this....we have found out how some of our members really are. The phrase: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything" comes too mind.

Good for you, Wulf. Continue or not, but don't let the jerks get to you.

Maybe I'm a fool, but there are a few game forums that I actually relish, because I loved playing those games so much. They seem particularly friendly to me. This is, of course, one of them. I don't check in here all that often anymore, but I always get a smile on my face whenever I do.

I believe Wulf. Yes, I realize that I don't actually know him. And yes, the jerks have raised a few compelling points (despite being jerks). But I trust him anyway. And oh, I am an intelligent man. Go figure.

uriziel you are right, I overread that topic but there was an other one just like you said, why doesn't he give proof or let something hear of him?
but whatever anyone says I don't belief it is a hoax

You know what? If you can get mud inside of orctemple as far as the xardas is, he will join you and fight´against mad novices and bal lukor. This will only happen if you can get mud all the way inside orc temple and you solve the focus quest in certain order.

I can't seriously belive that some of you folks are still now trying to find an other solution to this stupid quest.Sure i don't mind if people have fun and enjoy gothic once again, but all this bs is just insane. If you have proof i dare you to shup up us, the unbelievers.

Just read through this thread. A couple of years ago I can remember finding the old guy, but he was already dead. I think there's a good possibility you could find him alive though, because goodness knows I was no saint in that game. If somebody bugged me I gave them a good whalloping! Hope you find him alive again Wulf - I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you, believers, for the moral support.

@Dez,Just a quick word about Mud,

As far a i am aware, on record (posted in these forums) only myself has ever completed the game with Mud as the hero (as a self enacted follower) with pc-hero as the back-up buddy, letting Mud do all the work. That is - from the start of the game to the 'killing' of the sleeper, so with some authority i can say that you are not 100% correct regarding Mud, it doesn't matter in which order you get the focus stones.
So as not to stray off-topic, it might be a good idea, if you wish, to make another thread about Mud - - but it has all been said before.

There is no proof/screenshots about the "true cromanin" quest, i hope you understand - that is what i/we are searching for, it is an uphill sruggle, against all odds, but there is the knowledge that i have previously met the old man, and some day, we will meet again
- - - -
"But I shall not walk this path alone. This honor is mine. I must accept to share the power within myself with the worthy ones who are to come and find me. I hope they're coming soon"
- - - -
Only those who "ARE WORTHY" will find him.

I see, that you missed all the irony .It was just an example how i could say something like that to get people do what i want.I wasn't serious what i said about Mud, it was merely an example how easy it is to make something up.

But back to the subject.Good luck then and have fun, if you insist to continue your journey against all the odds and facts..

This would be however a great chance to make a tiny mod..

All I see is the topic being changed.

Killerofevils II claims to have done it...why not grab the PC??

It is simple why.....none of this is real

I love the game, and I know Wulf does also....but quite simply this is BS

There is NO evidence whatsoever that this quest is even possible. Not in the game files, not from screens..........not from ANY thing.

Wulf is a cool guy, I 'm not digging at him.....well I will a little hehehe. This thread has been great, and made alot of us play this great game again...my hat is off....but this is a hoax from hell.

And before you say some crap is "possible".........I broke down the code, even the patch codes...it is NOT there. Frankly I learned alot, and enjoyed it, so thanks But it is NOT in the game...not in the engine, not in the game files, not in the patch, not anywhere. There are NO encrypted calls, no dynamic location rendering for this.........nada. I was hoping they had done some steg and it was real, but.....nada.

Now it is time for someone to post some photoshop crap to make this linger lol.

Okay, so you say that there's no texture or model to the "Old Man"? It is possible, if one of the known characters is he. Other thing: like every objects, the Chromanin books can be targets of area spells, too. I experienced this thing twice: I casted Ring of Death near one of the books (it wasn't targeted). The book glown in red and I heard a strange voice. No more. I still try to understand it, I can't see it's logic.

Well, it's nothing special. I didn't know if I cast Ring of Death, and then pick up the item, that glowing will come.

I'm trying this quest myself because I really don't know what to believe so I thought that is better to give it a try before starting to throw stones at people (one in particular ).
So: I joined the old camp as a guard;avoided Dexter as to not receive the mission from him;met with Mud ! grrrrrrrr !;avoided swamp camp admission missions;brought the list straight to Diego;went with Mordrag to new camp and gave Lares the ring;beat Lefty and Jacko after I got attacked by them;paid Jackal protection money and avoided Bloodwyn.

Got (and read)1st book in ch1 after becoming a shadow; got and read the 2nd book just before ch3 begins.I will continue the quest tommorow.

I do have a couple of questions:
1.Is kicking Shrike out of the hut a good or bad thing ?
2.Luring Aron and Ulbert(the guard of the supplies in the mine) a good thing?
3.Is telling the guard that Aleph is a lazybones a good thing?
4.Is bringing Dusty to the Swamp camp a good deed although you have to lie&bribr the guard at the south gate?
5.Asking for rewards is good or bad? If being rewarded is a good thing I have the feeling that what you choose may have an impact on "triggers".

And another thing:Book5 states that "you will find me where it all began" or something similar.
Book1 says"the wise one........before embarking on the quest"
So is it possible that the quest begins where you find the 2nd book? (hope Wulf sees this )
Also there is a huge mural drawing on the wall beneath the mountain top ruins and I really hope it is not there by accident. Also the stone golem is not there in ch2.

The king is dead!!! Long live Mud!!!

Hey there Razor,

There is just two weeks left before the alien-pc deadline, so after that 25/dec/2004-12'noon date, if it isn't claimed, (and it's looking that way at the moment, but you never know) then i think i would be tempted to reveal all game info/idea's (and secrets) that i know of re:- the cromanin quest, but generally most of it has been said.

You seem to be at a point where i was several months back, but don't let me put you off, i could write pages on this "moral dilemma" topic, and it could then be all unfounded, but we will know one day - that's for sure, i have resolved myself to stay with this till it is done. of course the quest is true, why ever would i have stayed with it for this long? - and when the truth comes to light, you will see all of those points mentioned previously will be exactly as mentioned, that hidden secret door becomes visible only when you get near to it, who else on earth knows of this? that square shaped plinth on which there is a chest at the ruined monastery will have a "twin pillar" set-up with magic type chest and surprise, who else on earth knows of this? there will be further inter-connectivity of other passages beneath the fog tower, who else on earth knows of this? the old man does not walk but turns on one axis, who else on earth knows of this? - now, some ideas,

The big question is how to become "worthy" - there is no clear-cut answer just yet, it would appear that you, pc-hero is morally but humanly (from the heart) being assessed/judged.

1. Shrikes hut, - he is a rogue who occupied the hut whithout asking the merc's, the owners, when you speak to Gorn just after slapping him down, your journal entry says Gorn seemed contented with the outcome, then shrike goes and stays near to where Homer lives. to me pc-hero is justified, but you could sleep in there as much as you like without being aggressive to him, just sleep and quickly run off when he speaks to you? - no confrontation, and why does a quest have to be completed? - when i first met the old man my journal had lots of uncompleted quests.
2. Aaron and Ulbert, - tried both ways, why be devious? it doesn't alter the storyline, i tend to leave them uncomplete, same with 3. Aleph, try to use wolverine_mens own words, are your motives "questionable" do you need to?
4. Dusty, to me this is most definately morally justifiable, it is a humanistic thing, the overall outcome is get dusty back into his life, he is miserable otherwise, and you are using your own ore, but to some it is very arguable, does one big act of kindness out-wiegh another underhanded method to achieve the end result? - this is an individuals (subjective) decision.
5.Another "knife-edger" - you could end up begging Cor Kalom three times for some rewards, i tend to leave them, there isn't a "need" to, the game automatically makes Kalom at one point give a choice of three items.

Perhaps the biggest dilemma (to me) is knowing when to get and read the books, now that i know where and what they are, but then, it could be completely insignificant, after all these things were added after the first playable gothic game, there was a playable gothic game without this "the stranger" quest, you must have international versions 1.08j/k.

Be extra cautious/vigilant at book-4, the mood of the writings change a bit, i.e "i am beginning to ask myself if i am fooled around by this guy!" - i cannot remember having all of the books when i first met the old man.

The stone golem in the citadel basement is there from Xardas's instructions to find Ur-shak, have you seen it before "ch-4-Xardas"? - surely the cromanin quest begins with the "first book"

This mural thingy is to me most significant, i havn't seen it ever! - where is it? what is it? is it a picture? or a stone type carving? - - you may well be on your own in this respect, more info **pleeeeese!!**

Razor, you sound like you are well on-track to be able to do this quest, i sincerely wish you well.

Wulf...
The mural drawing (although it looks like the stone carvings in the sleeper's temple) is located in the citadel basement where you find the orc shaman. It is located on the entire wall where the two columns are.And there seems to be two pictures. One scene when you look at the wall when the columns are up and another when you lower the columns. At least this is my first impression. Also on the opposite wall there is a long drawing where the wall meets the ceiling.I couldn't tell if it's the same drawing as the one mentioned before.

Disclaimer: If this was only my imagination I am truly sorry for misleading you but it was night when I arrived at the citadel and the torch light isn't very reliable.
Please send a comment on your inpression of the "wall"
PS: You can ask for every info.I won't withhold any "clues" i find.I am not particulary interested in the PC.If I am lucky to find the old man before Christmas I will share every bit of info with the others so that all of us find the old man at the same time thus forcing Wolverine Man to give a PC to each of us. .
I can understand why WM wouldn't tell HOW he found the alternative ending but he could have shown us a picture with the old man alive

I've got and read book3 then i went to do a search in the tunnels and found nothing-no surprise there!!!-
Now I'm trying to get Dusty to the swamp camp wiyhout telling lies to the guard. The obvious uotcome is that the guards attack me.

O.k Razer,

Try the sleep spell on the guards, by default it should not alert close-by same guild members.
No luck with the mural, just fancy scratch marks day or night, torch or light spell, not to worry, nothing ventured nothing gained
