I couldn't bring myself to finish the Wizardry 8 demo. Lost interest somewhere along the way, and I rarely lose interest in a game during play. But then I'm not exactly into the ultra hardcore Dungeon Master style CRPGs, anyway, I'm more of a hybrid lover .

There's this game that's 3'rd 3d...what was it now...oh,yeah Tomb raider.
I think Outcast that someone mentioned is 3'rd person...and then there's Omikron:nomad soul.(I haven't played either, tried the Omikron demo a bit...seems sort of fun,but it doesn't seem to be available any more)
I'd think those two are a bit similar to eachother...adventure type of games with a futuristic setting.
Since I'm far from a 3'rd person fan (apart from isometric) I really don't have much knowledge about what's available.
If you like action games that are pretty hard and contains humour, you might want to check out Giants citizen kabuto.(3'rd or 1'st and both actually works...at least with the Mecc...haven't gotten very far yet so I don't know about the rest of the races)

I know, I hit submit and I got a stall before the update screen. So I stopped the transmission, refreshed and made sure the post didn't go through, then submitted it again. Now they're BOTH here! Grrrr, and right before my pic rolls over! It looks like I'm SPAMMING!

I know it's not a CRPG,I was J/K since you specified 3D 3'rd peron like Gothic...and that's pretty spot on for Tomb Radier...
If it was too slow and you like action...then I'd guess you *might* like Giants, tried it?
I got it bundled with the Audigy soundcard,so I started playing two days ago...pretty fun sort of.(I actually find the level a *tad* too hard...but I'm not giving up...really silly cutscenes BTW. )

Drakan was the closest thing I ever played to Gothic. Not an RPG but it "wanted" to be one

I loved Giants. The Mecc mission cutscenes were hilarious, as was the in game dialogue.
