Hi, I was wondering if anyone else found this issue a bit annoying...
I'm in the middle of the second chapter, and so far I only saw one good 2-handed weapon (Light two-handed sword), and a lot of one hand weapons.
What's even more annoying is that most of the good single handed weapons have better damage than my 2-handed sword!
I'm quite sure that this problem will disappear as new and more powerful weapons will arrive, but it's still annoying, cause I want my warrior to use 2 handed weapons...
I think I used the word "two-handed" a little too much there... |

The developers wanted to keep 1h and 2h balanced. Later 2h weapons will be better but 1h are faster. Maybe you donīt know it yet: learning only one of them doesnīt make sense. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Why doesn't it make sense? |
|
Do you say it because the skills go up together from a certain stage or becuase I should match the weapon I use to the opponnent I'm fighting?
I just got this battle axe but I need a 60 STR to use it and I have about half as much... |

I said that because the game more or less forces you to invest in both skills. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Gorath, why would you say that? In G1 in used 1h & Bow to survive and finished the game
so why would I have to waist my precious point on a weapon I do not intend to use? _________________ "That one hurt..."

The developers added more realism. Is it realistic a 1h master doesnīt know how to use a 2h sword?
Practically I think they wanted to make sure mixed characters donīt work. A warriormage was too powerful in Gothic. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Just train in what ever you want. Both work.
If you can't find any good 2-handers but enjoy 2-hand tactics more, then just train more into 2-handed skill anyways.
You'll make up for the crap sword with better training.
I'd rather have a crap sword, and be able to use it very well rather than a great sword but 30% training.
You'll find that the bulk of your close-combat success is due to being able to land critical blows consistantly.
@Gorath: Forced to train in both, isn't 'realism'. =P
It's logic.
Realism would be to invert between one-hand holds and two-hand holds in the middle of combat to adapt to the situation. |

Most 2-handed swords are too long or too heavy to be wielded effectivley using only one hand.... |

Check out the intro art. He's holding a torch in one hand, and the Red Wind 2-h sword in the other. |

Ahem. Considering that the art is of the game itself.
Holding the sword with both hands is just the technique. Not because the sword is too heavy to simply swing with one hand. It's like firing a handgun, holding with both hands is proper technique but firing with one hand still works and is sometimes the better option.
Also, when you kill someone after they're down, the character doesn't find the 2-hander too heavy to swing around a few times with his fingertips. |

Off course it's not just a technique! |
|
2-handed swords are heavier and longer.
That means that if you want to have a good grip on the sword so it will not fly away from ur hand the minute u hit something, you should grab it with both hands. Otherwise, ur strike won't carry enough str with it.
Fliping a sword in the air is one thing, fighting with it is another. |
