Interplay has left the building? |
|
Following the news a few weeks ago (<a href="http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10077&newsid=27530" target="_blank">story</a>) that Interplay was behind on rent (and indeed, taxes, salaries and some license payments), <a href="http://www.nma-fallout.com/" target="_blank">No Mutants Allowed</a> is <a href="http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7028" target="_blank">reporting</a> a source that says Interplay will be locked out of their building today and HR has advised employees to file for unemployment. Here's a snip:<blockquote><em>We've got more on this whole tale, it seems that Human Resources told the employees to file for unemployment, Herve and Eric are no where to be found.....
<br>
<br>All employees are in the progress of gathering their belongings, since the offices are being closed at 5pm. They were also told that they would be advised in the "future" what was being done......</em></blockquote> |

MOUWAHAHAHAHA!
My condolences to the honest, hard-working people who have lost their jobs, however. |

First, let me wish condolences to the people who are losing their jobs. I would never wish that upon anyone.
HOWEVER, death couldn't have come quicker to a sad sack of crap like Interplay 2004. It was a shell of its former glory and was being run into the ground by idiots (and you management know who you are... I bet you upper echelon guys get all your salary/bonuses... ). The "brain trust" was hoping to turn it into the next Acclaim... when that's your ultimate goal, you know you are in trouble. Chicago has the Curse of the Bambino. Now the Interplay Idiots have the Curse of the Fallout... I bet the money from that nearly finished Fallout 3 would have helped pay the rent... you management bums |

Everybody, including myself, knew that this would eventually happen. There was no way out, ´cos the company had already ruined itself. I thought that I´d feel happy for this to happen, but it´s really kinda sad. I remember when Interplay were publishing games like Lost Vikings and Baldur´s Gate. There were no imaginary evil CEO´s, no suit people for gamers to curse. Just good games and folks who cared about them. Those really were the days.
I´m sad about the people who lost their jobs, but really, deep inside, I feel
crushed to look at a company, once so proud and twindling, degrade an dfinally crumble.
I´m going to have a moment of silence, excuse moi... |

i agree, whatever Interplay did recently, i don't forget how their products influenced my gamer's life : from Neuromancer, Bard's Tale, Lord of the Rings, Dragon Wars to Fallout, Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale..
Rest In Peace, Interplay... |

Will this serve as an example to the industry? Will development houses and their properties get more respect or will games continued to be consolized and crapified? Im guessing things will continue to go shit but you never know. |

I doubt that this will be a good example to other companies. Many large companies close their studios one by one (the latest, I learned from a print mag, were Papyrus and Impression, both dissolved into Vivendi).
But one thing makes me happy: Activisions CEO, acc to that print mag (can't remember if it was PC Games or GameStar) said, the company will not release any MMORPG shorlty...maybe people will learn after all?
And, to any Interplay employee who reads this: Thank you, thank you for a wonderful era of great games. You will be missed! And good luck and godspeed in oyur future, both biz & private! |

I wholeheartly agree with you. Thank you all! Don´t let it weigh you down, I´m quite sure most of you get jobs; Indrusty wants talented people.
By the way, Obsidian, Irrational, Bioware and Bethesda are all looking for talented individuals so, well... I hope you get it |
