look at those results, can you tell this site has a lot of Gothic fans?
I also voted for Gothic 2. I haven't finished Kotor yet, but I've gotten well past half way, so I think I can say whether I like it or not. Yes I like it, but I liked Gothic 2 better.
Maps, Gothic 2 has just a few really large maps, Kotor has a bunch of little ones (thanks Xbox). Some maps string together and make an area a bit larger, but still nothing is near the size of the Gothic 2 map.
Fighting, though I've started getting used to it I don't really like the turn based system. I guess that comes from the FPS games I started out with. I like being in control of my weapon. Then again I've heard people complain about Gothic's fighting controls, but I got used to them. I'd played G1 just before G2, so I didn't even like switching to the new controls, I stuck with the old ones.
NPCs. Much better in Gothic. They had lives and daily cycles. They could sit down, or even sleep. KotOR, like in Morrowind, they all stand around all day and wait for you. I also had to put my weapons away in town or the guards would chase me in Gothic. It bugged me that on Taris in KotOR I was running around with my blaster out and Sith guards all around occupying the planet didn't care. NPC dialog interaction is good in both games. Dialog can make differences, so I won't hold that against either one.
Enemy NPCs in KotOR seem fairly well balanced. Grunts are easy, bosses are hard. I liked Gothic's beasts and such. You had to stay clear of the woods when you just start out, but once I got some levels under my belt everything including the "bosses" were too weak. When you can take out the final boss with one mouse click and no damage to yourself, there needs to be some re-balancing.
In the end I think they are both good games. I'm don't want to knock KotOR that much. In some ways its nice that their different. I'm giving the nod to Gothic for now. _________________ 9700Pro, AMD64 3200+, WinXP-Win98SE

I adore both games.
I couldn't stop playing KotOR... I'm still in progress of playing Gothic 2. So far, it's awesome. I think I prefer G2 to KotOR, though I voted KotOR because it had so few votes. _________________ Evil is Life in its purest and most naked form. |

I have played and enjoyed both games - Gothic 2 and KotOR are close together in my ranking list, but with its expansion Gothic 2 is the winner. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild= |

Way to revive the old debate, though it'll probably just die again. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!
