Tactics was alright. My copy crashed out during the final missions (I think it was the final missions). Obviously, there was no freedom to wander around and do what you want. Overall I liked the story, the graphics, and the new tactical options (though I winced at how wretched my standard hand-to-hand guy did even in the first mission and had to remake a few times.).

- Stealth is good. Get a good mix of skills for your squad... but make sure a few of them are super-sneaks.

- Grenades are useful for once. Throwing isn't a bad combat skill, as you can lob grenades over walls you are crouched behind without being able to see the target on the other side (just the chunky bits flying into the air.)

- Your best scout should be very handy at seeing and disabling traps. Save before you try and disarm mines. Learn to laugh at the death shriek of your scout as they get blown twenty feet in the air and land a bloodied mess when they fail to disable the trap.

- Cover is there for a reason. Use it.

- Save often. Use turn based. I didn't like the real time much though I know some people who swore by it.

As Xen said, being sneaky is a must. I won the game twice and I never would have survived it if I didn't sneak and use cover.
Snipers are good until you start having to deal with mutants. Then you'll need some big guns people or they'll rip you up. Rocket launchers, M60s and grenades. Otherwise they'll storm right over you. So don't be afraid to switch out some characters in favor of those that suit your mission. However, it's good to keep some of them with you throughout the game and build them for special jobs.
You can wander all over the map without penalty. Just make sure you survive and have enough ammo for the next mission.
There are some great special encounters in the game that can provide unique items and characters that you'll be able to recruit into your squad, like the Pipboy! If you find a special encounter on a map tile, then it is possible to find additional special encounters on that tile if there is room for them. So traveling near the corner of map tiles can let you fit four special encounters into that one tile.

I started playing F:T yesterday. Can't find a single bad thing about it. The graphix seem better then Fallout 1 & 2 and the sounds are great. Are you aventually able to wear the ultra-cool power armour ? I can't wait untill I get to have a vehicle that is just awensome. Does anyone know of good pages about F:T ?

No Mutants Allowed is a great site
Great armor pic too! Wallpaper mat'l there ='.'=

I had a good time with Tactics. Really liked the graphics and the gameplay was pretty solid. Did take a long time to play tho, that's for sure.

I'am half way thru the 3rd. mission. This game is great. I'am more of a strategy fan ( Panzer general etc.. ) so this is perfect for me. The grafix are really nice, though I play at 800x600 'couse otherwise everything is too small.

Hey I just got the HUMMER I can't get enough of this game, it's great. The gory graphix are fantastic & it really does take a long time to play. Right now the only problem that I'am having is that my main character has only strenght of 4 and can't handle the cool weapons.

Anyways, have anyone figured out the usefulness of Ghouls ? When I recruited one he radiated everyone so I decided not to take him on.

Ghouls are incredibly resistant to radiation. That's really about it.

They make good cannon fodder. i.e. Set traps and use them for the bait.

he only radiated your team because he had a special ghoul trait the others should not do the same
and dont worry about the strenght when you get the adv. power armor it gives you +4 strenght
ofcourse you only get it until late in the game

but you can take the weapons handling perk it should give you +3 strenght for determining if you can use a weapon or not

Tactics is pretty fun, but it´s too easy.
I had only 5 members in my team and i never had any problems. 3 of them was energy/heavy guys (one of them was pretty good at throwing) 1 of them was a sniper/traps and the last one was a medic/scientist/mecanic/pilot/sniper.

Btw: there is only one good ghoul

Fallout Tactics gets old very fast. Sure it's fun at start, and even second time around, trying to do all there is to do. But then, that's that. The game lacks really anything resembling tactics, because there's really only one way to win the map. Sure, you may use once some sneaking guy, who throws the grenade, and second time some heavy gun guy, who blasts the place clear, but that's that, this is where the variety ends. Everything else in this game can be played through only one way, that's that.

It was fun to try when it was out, although it was bugged to hell and back and to hell again. They at least fixed it some, before they started to ignore the game totally. But, make no mistake - it's Fallout-type of a game, but it's not a real Fallout, not even close, it lacks any depth. No wonder there, though, it was never meant to have any depth anyway, it was just made as a shooter, basically..

But, sure, have fun, I am sure you'll find things to do for at least 2 times throughout that game, but after that, it gets dull.
