Demon Stone (PS2): Review @ Eurogamer

Eurogamer's Kieron Gillan brings us his uninspired review of Stormfront's PS2 version of Demon Stone, in which Kieron awards it an overal score of 5 out of 10...

But aside from the fact it's only sporadically fun, what most kills Demon Stone is what it doesn't include. Firstly, it doesn't include any form of co-operative play, which is genuinely saddening. While they would have had to compromise on the area viewed to make it work, having three unique characters which only ever use their abilities for the small amount of time when you're controlling them seems a waste.

Secondly, it doesn't include much. While Two Towers (and its EA produced sequel Return of the King) were undoubtedly short games, Demon Stone flows through your fingers like water. Starting play on a Saturday night and I'd finished it by the following evening, without even trying seriously and taking lengthy breaks to go and do something a little more entertaining, like the Darwinia Demo, chatting on the internet and arguing with my girlfriend on the phone.

You can just about forgive a game you enjoy for being short. When it's a game you just endure... well, the urge to staple it to the back of a group of hobbits heading southeastward is increasingly attractive.

I didn't particularly like Demon Stone much either.

But I guess I have to keep saying it with hopes that maybe some of these amateur internet reviewers will, 'get it' someday...

Reviewing a game and commenting endlessly about what it doesn't have is not a review. It's long-winded personal bloviating. That's fine as long as you don't call it a review.

A review primarily consists of an analysis of the merits of the game... how well the advertised features come together to create a fun and challenging experiece.

It's acceptable to comment a little bit on woulda-coulda-shoulda's... but when the vast majority of a review drones on and on about what a game doesn't have I just lose total interest in ever reading a review by that author ever again because what I'm really reading is what that person's personal expectations are for a particular gener... which, again is ok on a small scale but just unacceptable when its the vast majority of the 'review.'

demon stone a RPG ????

Hi,

I played Demon Stone.

It's NO WAY a RPG. Only an D&D action game, without any stats.
I think rpgdot shouldn't talk about it, it's completely off-topic and could mislead people.
