To the people who are already playing DS: what is it like now that you are playing it yourselves?
Is it what you expected?
Does it run ok on your system?

Dungeon Siege won't come out over here in Holland for another 2 weeks so I can't try it myself yet.

It's Awesome I just played thru the night, and I love it.
It has been a constant battle from the start of the game till now.
You start out alone on a farm and fight your way through forests and the crypt dungeon just to get to town.

It's one of the top 5 games I've ever played.

The scenery is just breath-taking, with the trees and bushes swaying in the wind and the killer landscapes with cliffs, waterfalls and open fields. The character/creature models are very fluent and have high poly counts so they don't look cheesey.

The sounds are excellent, there are no annoying repeating tones that make your ears bleed.

The musical score is one of the best I've ever heard, plain and simple. Very "heroic" sounding, with french horns for those perfect moments, mellow and soft when you're going through the forest. It's really cool because the music is CONSTANTLY changing to fit the mood of the game, really helps draw you in.

The combat can be handled in two ways.
1) You can just move your guys within range of the enemies and watch them fight it out. They have solid AI scripts that don't goof up from what little I've used of them. You can tell them how far to chase enemies, when to attack, and which enemy to attack.

2) You can turn off the AI scripts and make your characters stand until given an order, they will do that task until the enemy is dead or you tell them something different (identical to Baldur's Gate / Icewind Dale). This is the mode I've been using since I started, requires a lot of micromanaging because they battles are quick. I've thought about giving just my archer a script so I don't have to keep track of her as much, just have her keep shooting away at the strongest enemy, while not moving from her spot.

It's a great game, if you liked Icewind Dale at all then you'd go crazy over this game.

So, you saying it's a hack-and-slash Baldur's Gate?

hack & slash baldur's gate style game = icewind dale

It's like playing Icewind Dale with a much more detailed engine.

Well if single player is like Icewind Dale then multiplayer, imo, is more like Diablo II.

I liked Baldur's Gate; but Icewind Dale bored me, I deleted the game after a couple of hours. Hopefully Dungeon Siege is more like the former and not like the latter

It's more like the latter. As in... almost the same, but with a better engine.

Then avoid this game.

IWD was far better than BG, so if you didn't like IWD, then you'll become hella bored with DS.

Yes, it is for people that like action.
It has good story, but it is very very linear (I played maybe 25% of whole game).

This game is one long battle .

It's completely linear, but it's fun. I like the donkey animations.

I'm having a blast! I'm playing two games concurrently with different party styles. This is what Diablo II should have been. Hell, it's what Diablo I should have been for that matter!

It's a lot of fun to play. Comparing it to other games like Diablo and Baldur's is difficult. I think it's a game unto itself.

I can see that light gamers will get tired of the fighting. Heavy gamers will be looking forward to the editor sooner than they might have expected. The world is large, but I doubt that it will take serious gamers more than a few weeks to run through it once. There are several ways of building your character, but managing the npc's is exactly like managing your own character.

It's worth the price to me, and I thank Chris and crew for their work. I will be looking forward to the editor soon, but enjoying the 'raising' of my characters a lot.

I would not trade my experiences with Diablo, or Gothic, or Ultima Online, and I wouldn't want to miss out on this one either.

Max, this is what a reviewer on Zen Gamers said:

"Despite the game’s hype as a “Diablo-killer”, it really is not that similar to Diablo. If I had to make a comparison (as I am sure I will throughout this review), I would compare Dungeon Siege to Darkstone, or perhaps Icewind Dale on steroids."

Having never played any of the games mentioned except DS, I'll have to take his word on the comparison.
