Crashes during battles... help!!

Hi to all,

I'm new in the forum (sorry for my english...i'm italian ).
I've istalled Gothic 4 days ago and a I got a very very frustrating problem.
The game seems to work well but sometimes when i have to face an enemy it crashes suddently returning to the desktop and claming a critical error. Now i'm in the minecrawlers'nest and it crashes everytime i meet a minecrawler.

i tried to reinstall the game .. nothing.
I changed the resolution, video option, graphic option (every possible combination) .. nothing.

i don't know what to do.

This is my system:

Athalon XP 1800+
Geforce 4400 ti
directx 9
Windows XP pro

Please help me!!

Thanks a lot,

Daniele

It could be a sound related problem: Gothic can crahs if it has to render more then certain number of sound sources. This is especially evident when you have to deal with multiple enemies at the same time.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the fix, but hopefully someone will help.

Just go to search and type "crashes" and "sound" you should find the solution in one of the listed threads, only search the Gothic section to make it easier

Set your sound provider to DirectSoundHW, disable reverb and use 1024*768*32 as resolution. If everything works you can slowly ramp up the resolution.
Also ceck the cheast guide FAQ for some visual enhancements. Your machine should be fast enough to handle them.

Friend of mine has the same problem. He tried to instal it in Win 98 (it was crashing in Win XP) and it seems to be fixed (meantime). A little bit comlicated, but if you have two systems in your computer...

Welcome to the boards first. I think the sound is the first thing to try to change. If not there is a good bit of information on optimizing Win XP so that it doesn't eat up so much of your ram. Look for that in the AOT thread. It is pretty old in the forum. I think Northchild was author. Hope you get it fixed.
