| Slow play in Gothic 2 since i installed XP |

Hello, i recantly installed XP(used to have win2k), and installed gothic 2 again, but i found that everything, not just gothic is a lot slower... Does anyone know any methods to enchange gaming on XP? If so please let me kow id greatly appreciate it...

my game works perfect on XP, maybe your video card isn't made to cooperate with XP...

Well some old games can be fixed this way. Open windows explorer and find the .exe file of the game. Right click on it and select properties. Then click on compatibility. There you can set the game to be compatible with win95,or 98/ME, or NT. Try it.

You need a bunch of XP optimisation guides. XP is slow out of the box. Even if you know how to optimise it it still takes ~5 hours to do so.
XP also collects lots of data, so you definitely want to work your way through this.

Hi all!
I just got my hands on GothicII.I installed the game,and when I wanted to play I noticed that the game is VERY slow.I am using WindowsXP,and I`ve heard that GothicII doesn`t quite like WinXP.I don`t think that my hardware is too slow,because in the readme file the recommandations are WAY below than my configuration.So please tell me what should I do because I played a little bit with the game and I like it VERY MUCH.
P.S:When will the Night of the Raven expansion pack be ready(english version)?

Try this. It worked great for me. http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
I freed up a lot of space and got much faster run times on everything without loosing the good aspects of xp.
Edit: I first must give credit to Northchild for providing the link in the AOT some time ago. I just cut and paste. Second, these actions will free up ram and hard drive space as it reduces the number of processes that are running in the background with xp. So more available for game. It helped me and I have 700? ram installed.

G2 doesn´t have problems with XP. It should be playable on your system if your PC is configured correctly. Only 2 locations are slow: the city and the first farm. You have to lower the details there to get more than 15 fps.

I reduced everything to minimum!The resolution was at 640x480x16 and the game was working like when it was at maximum detail and 1024x768x32 resolution.So something else is the problem.
At first I had 256 rams and then I bought +256 and NOTHING changed,it was working just as slow as it was with 256rams...

I'm afraid so. It is a long drawn out process. What I did was print it out, find the stuff I wanted to try, and do it with the instructions in front of me. It is shutting off some of the extras in xp and converting it to more basics as in win2k. I found all my memory related stuff was gone after that. My system ram is like yours, and this solved the problem for me. But it is up to you. I would try all other solutions first, as this is a lot of work.

I think I will try another Windows(2000 for example)and if it won`t work that way than I`ll try that long,hard work you mentioned .
