Ok, I have a Athlon 1900+ XP, a 64mb Geforce 3, 512mb PC2100 DDR ram. I got a score of 7080 on 3DMark2001. All of my games run very fast with no slowdowns, except for Gothic. The game is locked at 20 fps most of the time (by the developers I think), but when I'm playing, it dips even below 20 fps (down to 12 sometimes) and it's choppy as hell! I haven't installed the 1.08k patch yet because it says that the patch is only for the game crashing in Win98. So what's the deal? Do I wait for the proper patch? Do I install the 1.08k patch? Or do I just return the game and get one that has a decent graphics engine?

Ah, I know what you mean. I'm running it on a WinXP machine with an XP1600+ and the framerate hovers around 20 fps.
The thing is: If I hadn't turned on the framecounter I'd never known. The game runs just very smooth (I don't have DDR), no slow downs, no nothing....only really bad "draw-in's". nothing I can't live with.
I guess framerate doesn't say it all.

Well I installed the 1.08k patch and guess what? No improvement, still choppy as hell! Well unless Xicat Interactive tech support can help me get this game running smoothly, it's going back to the shop.

I have the NEWEST Detonator Drivers. My system works awesome with all other new games (most with graphics much more demanding than Gothic). Gothic definitely has some MAJOR problems with Windows XP. Too bad, it is a great game.

I dunno if it's WinXP - I am running WinXP on a 1.4T-Bird, 256 or 2100DDR, and a Geforce2 with few problems under WinXP. There are occasional crashes, but no more than others here have mentioned. I also have the game graphics/video settings as high as possible.

I have an 1700 Athlon XP, and I had no probs for about the first 5 minutes. then my machine locked up time and again, and after that it did the same stuff in Windows, office progs, when playing music and so on...

...I suspected my sound drivers, RAMchip, video drivers and board in turn, but whichever part of hard/software I exchanged, it kept on locking up during Gothic.

A few hours ago I was down on my knees in front of my com, imploring it to stop locking up. I wasn't above offering it 10 ore if it would only stop freezing my system!

Finally my processor turned out to have been the ***hole. Innos knows how and why, but it obviously was damaged. Since I exchanged it, everything is running just smoooothly.

So give your machine a chance.
You also might switch off music...

I, and my friend have the exact same computer config you have.

Latest drivers. XP. 512mb ram. Athlon 1200Mhz plus, GeForce 3.

No problems with Gothic. Never. Played it through several times.

But I guess I should tell you, I am great.

Best Regards
JemyM

Try changing your FPS HEAD driver!

Get yourself Quake3 set it to 640x480x16 and masturbate at 150+FPS.
And return game to the shop. - maybe someone worthy will get it.
