I have a pentiumIII800 mhz, 256 megs of ram, and a Geforce2 Ultra with 64 megs of video ram. I have been reading a lot of previews about Morrowind and i keep reading that it will require a very powerful machine......will my specs be enough?....god i hope so

Yes, it will. a dev has mentioned that he's running the game just fine on his office machine - a p3-800, 256mb and a Geforce3. Wait, don't leave yet!! Todd Howard(Project Lead) said in the interview at XGR.com that the game runs on a TNT2, you'll want a Geforce2, but if you have the cash and can't live without the latest special effects, invest in a Geforce3. He also that that the requirements are lower than poeple think. There.

i've been keeping my eyes open for stuff like this too, because i too have a P3-800, 256mb, but with 32mb Geforce2(so I might get me a better one anyway, since I don't have to upgrade anything else).

There is no set release date yet.
Gamestop probably made up that date or it is an old one.
It's "spring" 2002. Which in reality could be just about any month in the beginning of the year really
But I am not counting on january myself. I'm more expecting it around april/may.
Hopefully it won't be released much later...

Beteseda has not set any minimum system requirements yet, and they have not released a definite date for "Gold" other than spring 2002; but in my opinion, since the game has been postponed many, many times now, I would look closer to the summer than the spring.

Do you all use Gothic as a performance guage(as well as an archetype) for this Moronwind?

Wrong, we get to chat to a handful of the devs on a regular basis in #morrowind on dalnet and they are good people. If it wouldnt run on your machine they would let you know.

The fact is that there are no official system specifications for the game yet. One thing I will add tho is that Morrowind will support those whose systems have dual processors

YES! Good thing I'm getting an Asus A7M266-D dual processor based system soon(with winxp professional). Nice to finally see some games(besides quake 3) take advantage of dual processors. It's about time!
P.S. I also heard Star Wars Galaxies will take advantage of dual processors too.
