You have pointed that out often enough. You have never specified what
kind of market do you think an already outdated (graphically) game
will have in 12 months time. I mean who except the hardcore fans
(you have also mentioned that sales cannot be based on them) will
even look at it twice. Could the "steadily growing fanbase" created by G1's
Sleeper like constant sales coincide with the poor sales of G2. And
do you seriously believe that the fanbase will grow enough, for ATARI
to concider publishing the addon, just by word of mouth ? (since I understand
that little P.R effort and self space has gone G2's way since its american release,am I wrong ?) .

I think taking into account the recent info it might even be an educated guess
Ofcourse you are right "almost" none of us here is a market specialist.
And we could be very wrong. I personally couldnt be happier if we are.

Well, maybe not.

G2 is not outdated compared to other RPGs. The only RPG in the pipeline which will blow it away technically (Vampire) was delayed for a whole year and then undelayed again. Of course one should be realistic how RPGs look to a casual gamer compared to other genres.

I´m not sure G2 sells poorer than Gothic. More the opposite. Even an uninterested Atari is stronger than Xicat. The fan base is shared between us and JoWooD, thus the rather low traffic compared to the explosion after the G1 release. Plus G2 makes significantly less trouble than Gothic.
I think word of mouth sells this game, as G2 helps G1 sales.

Little but at least some to North America, none to the rest of the English gaming world.
I don´t know if Atari will release the add-on. If I was them I would wait till September and release one version worldwide. For 20$ in a DVD box with a pdf manual. 10 / 16 months to develop the market and still outside the Christmas season.
G3 is still 2 years away. The only direct competition in the RPG genre would be David Bradley´s Dungeon Lords. I doubt this game has a good publisher outside Germany (DTP, for example Runaway). DreamCatcher, I think.
Atari and JoWooD have no need to hurry. Given G2´s poor marketing example it´s quite possible the add-on will not even be announced. Then we read on Blue´s that it´s in stores since last Monday. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

I have read this piece and another piece of news about JoWooD expanding the Gothic series. It would seem to me that they are going to publish RAVEN.
It would seem that Atari is giving it up. I believe JoWooD is doing much better finiancially and is going to go ahead with the Gothic series. Good move for JoWooD, it is a good game, just some decent marketing this time, it will sale. I assume this will include the add-on, or only the Gothic 3.
When it would be released, it maybe the Q3. Here is another story that mentions Gothic. I guess Atari is going to let the publishing rights to expire, or sold it to JoWooD; I do not know.
Thnaks for the translation help, I would like to see what is going to be the fate of the expansion. I would wait until April, after that....

JoWooD Eyes Stargate SG1 - Prophet
JoWooD Productions announced during a financial report for Fiscal Year 2003 today (see our earlier news story for details) that it plans to build on several successful brands in 2004 (and beyond to 2005), in particular SpellForce, the Gothic series of PC role-playing games and several television and film IPs. JoWooD will facilitate the development of games based on licensed film and TV intellectual properties including Sci-Fi Network's Stargate SG1 in 2005 and another title based on a successful film IP scheduled for release in 2004 which is to be announced. I don´t think so. JoWooD still has the German rights for G2 and TNotR. They only sold an international license to Atari.
The press release probably only refers to the chart successes in Germany. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

I sent an e-mail to the representative of atari benelux and this is what she said in dutch:
"Ik heb 't nagevraagd voor Gothic 2 the Add-on. Blijkbaar heeft Atari Duitsland 'm wel uitgegeven, maar of wij 't in de Benelux ook gaan doen, daar is nog niets over bekend."
Translated in english:
"I checked the gothic 2 add-on for you. Apparently Atari Germany has released it but I can't say if we'll release it in the Benelux region, nobody knows anything about that."
So basically, as for now, the english version is still a mystery to everybody. _________________ Wo ist mein Sumpfkraut? |

Not exactly. The Admin was quoting that PB the developer has only a small crew working on it, which was a repeat from GShark1 off the JoWooD board, which is total speculation. All gossip.
PB is finished with thier end. UK Atari has no idea of the game. Atari upper management is not going to publish an expansion since they do not even have a clue of its existance or contract? Atari only had one deal, to publish Gothic 2 in USA and that was it, not Raven ASFAIK.
Thye are banking on DRIV3R 'CONSOLE GAMES' to carry them into future. They will publish only two PC CDROM games then that is it until financially better off. They are dropping ALL third party titles.
There is no one (PB or Atari) working on it. Maybe someday Atari will pick Raven, but it looks like it is dead DOA just like what happen with Falcon 4.0 Gold: OIR.
Atari sold out to console games. Someone else will have to publish Raven, if ever in English. _________________ Wo ist mein Sumpfkraut? |

Well Xerxes712, I can't help with the translation, but I can give ya some incentive. I will donate or buy it if you spend the time doing it.
I'm seriously concidering trying to get the G3 right for the USA. The inept bungling of the entire series release thus far in the english world has been astonishing. _________________ Chris: Dad, what's the blow-hole for?

i think they will release the addon like they did they did gothic2. it started with lots of dates being thrown around and it kept getting posponed and changed and then it was released in the UK and people bought there to be sent to America and it was finaly released in the US. its bound to happen again and again with the gothic series. _________________ For Innos
