I just got a Radeon 8500le in anticipation of getting morrrowind, is le different from a regular 8500, are they the same card, does anyone know?
I don't know much about video cards, i've been stuck with a *shudder* RIVA TnT for the past year so my experience is pretty limited

This is exactly my question. What is difference between them. Price is really "not the same" so I suppose there must be quit big difference. |

Apparently both cards are almost identical. Same performance but for a different price. |

According to this banchmark it seems that there is no difference between LE and full version (I do not call 5 - 2% difference).
So there is still question why is there such a big price difference? |

The differance is in clock speed GPU and memory.The Radeon 8500 is clocked at 275/275 where as the LE is clocked at 250/240.Nothing to get worried about at all the slightly higher clock speed and memory only create a small differance in performance and would not be noticed by the majoity of users. |

So it LE should be overlockable to full (normal) version? Or does it use some worse memories, GPU? |

The water effects are definately something on the right cards! Now if someone could just make proper curves.

As far as i know the LE uses the same GPU and RAM as the the standard 8500.I see no reason that with a proper heatsink and fan combo in addition to throwing some heatsinks on the memory modules it should OC to standard 8500 speeds.Yor mileage may vary though and i suggest visiting this forum and viewing how others using a Radeon 8500 LE are fairing in there OC atempts.Id love to help out more but i only have experiance with Nvidua products and the people on this board can help you a bit more than i can if you wish to atempt OC your card.

PC & Xbox versions will look the same apart from the image will be a LOT sharper on PC due to the higher resolution.
Both PC & XBox wil have the call water since XBox has a GeForce3 Ti in it.
Only other difference is the XBox will probably load more often due to its lower available RAM.

So if I bought a GeForce 3 Ti 200 I should get the water effects? My card now is an ancient NVidia TNT 2 Pro/Model 64 or something like that. (can't check, not at home now). And I'd need another 128 MB of RAM in my system for 256 Megs. And then I should be good.
System Now:
Intel Celeron 700
128 Megs of RAM (want 128 more)
NVidia TNT 2 Pro/Model 64 (want a GeForce 3 Ti 200)
20 gig HD

Super_Ant, I think you need new system and plug Gforce3 into your MB with your CPU is throwing money out of window, just my opinion of course. |

If you are planning to upgrade your video card now and are looking for the best bang for your buck, I would argue that the Geforce 4 Ti4200 is your best buy. It comes in 64mb and 128mb versions, priced around $179 and $199 respectively. It is a good jump over the best GeForce 3 cards and costs even less. If you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, you could opt for the Ti4400 or 4600 versions, but they're a pretty penny (Though a 4600 at the moment is the fastest card money can buy)
Just some gamer to gamer advice, because I'm planning on getting the Ti4200 (128mb version) for Morrowind |

no getting a geforce 3 ti200 would improve your performance alot, a 700 mhz processor is more than enough for it. and get the extra ram! if you have win2k or xp go for 512 even |

Super Ant. Danicek is right, youre entire system is in need of a serious upgrade. You will be luck to get a slide show on that system.
The worst part is the memory. 128MB isnt enough to run hardly anything nowadays. 512MB is bare minimum for flawless gameplay. Systems are starting so ship with 1GB now.
your processor is not only slow, but its very old generation without any of the enhancements of P3 & P4. You need to upgrade that also.
Graphics card wise, they would improve your performance but you would be throwing away money because with that system you would never get the full speed out of them. The memory and CPU would hold them back.
I suggest selling it to raise some cash and get a whole new system. Upgrading any of these components individually would be a false economy. |
