Why didn't you like Stonekeep and what year did you play it? |

I played it maybe 3 years ago I think. I got it in a collection of 12 RPG games. Usually I like even older games, but it ran slower than molasses going uphill in the dead of winter on the old PC I was playing it on. I just never got into the game and quickly lost interest. |

For me the worst pick goes to Realms of Arkania, I think. It was hopelessly complex, I didn't even get through character creation. |

Maggot: Nonsense: Realms of Arkania is not that complex. I know you now are playing Wizardry 8, and it is at least as complex as R.O.A. You must remember it from the old days when you were younger and your experience with tough games was from "Tetris" and alike. |

It could be that I'm confusing this with Disciples or Blades of Steel. I don't remember. Were there Archetypes in Realms of Arcania? |

Ahh! I really liked the Realms of Arkania series as well as Disciples of Steel. Disciples of Steel(one of my all-time favorites) got lukewarm and poor reviews generally, mostly due to complexity and graphics being a little dated looking(I played it in 94 and the vga graphics looked ok to me back then). I happen to like rpg's with more complexity than usual. I don't like it when developers dumb down the game or make it not complex enough. It had a really great critical hit system for combat which really made things exciting. I really liked the midi music as well(especailly in the town of Farnus). Also, some of the spells were really cool like being able to create a semi-real illusionary creature which could fight for you in combat.
Also, it had some interesting strategy elements to it as you could build armies. I never got into the army building aspect of the game because I found my band of 6 characters could deal just fine with most threats. The difficulty level(as with Evil Islands)turned some people off too, but I stuck with it and won the game and had alot of fun along the way. It was quite a long game if you did all the quests and went everywhere. |

I'd say my least favorite that I played most of was Return to Krondor. LOL2 wasn't the greatest, but at least there was a lot of it, and the 3D graphics were nice to look at. I didn't like Arena much either, too repetetive. |

I would like to revise my ranking of worst RPGs of all time
1. Battlesphere - (couldn't play longer than five minutes)
2. Return to Krondor - (need I say more)
3. Daggerfall - (for the pure frustation)
4. Arena - (fun for awhile - boring later)
5. Icewind Dale - (boring from the beginning)

I forgot about Evil Islands, I loved it. It was great the way you could modify your own weapons and armor to make them more powerful as you found better materials.
You could also take armor off defeated enemies. More games (even the games I like) need to do that kind of thing.
The only thing wrong with Evil Islands was the acting of the hero. It was truly atrocious and he ran his mouth so much that it became really annoying!
I've only played three CRPG's; Gothic, Wizardry 8 and Evil Islands.
The worst, by far, was Wizardry 8. I never finished it because I hated nearly everything about it. I couldn't stand it's idiotic "I can't see my party" view and it's "what the heck is going on?" combat the most.
I know most people liked Wizardry 8, but you asked.
It's not you, it's me.
