Jack in a barrel ??

ok by accident i came across a rather weird and kinda funny thing ..
i was playing around whit gothic and just killed a guard in the old camp
when i wanted to take his stuff i guess i wasnt faceing him .. but the big barrel next to his body
the hero jumped in a curaled up inside it ..

so far i've only been able to find that one barrle whitch can do this..
its the large open one just inside the north gate of the old camp at the end of the first house where a couple of guards are talking...

give it a try .. and if anyone can come up whit a way that it can make any sense at all be sure to let me know

There are at least 2 barrels that you can hide into that I know of.Both are in the Old Mine. One is near Ashgan and the other is in a side shaft(I think that is the tunnel where you find the Bonebow and a +5 Dex ring)

I guess you can hide from monsters in them, but why? I don't think you can pull your inventory while in the barrel. I may be wrong, but never tried.

Perhaps it was intended for a sequence that was never implimented. For example, you sneak into a room, hide in a barrel, then some big wigs come in to hold a private conversation that you listen in on while hidden.
That, or they just put it in because they thought it was funny.

I checked out the ani files on this and could find no text links.

The ani's:- S_BARRELO_S0 & S_BARRELO_S1 so its seems that Val is (once again) pretty close with the abandoned barrel project.

You know, just thinking, all of the abandoned projects in Gothic may be there just to confuse & mislead?

O.k,

First @ Graham 2,

You won't believe this but when i checked the 2 ani' files i was curious about Mud, so i got him to follow like he does and got Mud into the barrel, I actually left him there for good (yipee!) but then i changed my mind and got him back out upon which he immediately said "where are we going or is it a suprise, i like suprises" just like you joked!

O.k @Uocjat,

There is a very good tutorial on the G2 forums by Patrax, see "new old knights armor" topic, it would save repeating it all again. the original "GothicVDFS.exe" file by Nico Bendlin has since been modified to use for G2 (but it still works in Gothic) will "expand the vdfs volumes and send the selected file/folder to where you like then to be manipulated, altered etc'
but for importing/eporting, changing file types of the graphical kind, there is no better tool than "Goman".

Good luck!

Hey there Uocjat,

I know this thread is a bit old by now, but i recently found what you can do with the barrels, and i think there are more than three i found five, won't tell you where - these barrels are to help/assist the player in the game because they are strategically placed (for when it is dark),,,
Hold a lighted torch in your hand as you get into the barrel, while crouched inside, hit the space bar (for your melee weapon) and hey presto!!
you will jump out of the barrel with a lit torch in one hand and a weapon in the other hand, and you can fight monsters in the darkness, pretty cool of the programmers/dev's to think of that one.

Never tried that, a good idea.

I was only using 1-h weapon at the time, i doubt it will work on the bows or 2-h weapons, or even using magic, i must give it a try, there is as you say, always something new to learn in gothic, - recently when using a bow on the harpies in the mountain fort, i was firing "fire-arrows" - so i think that this is the "overlay" (in marvin - apply overlay) for the "legendary warbow of burning"
but not sure? because i cannot use marvin to find out (cromanin)
