Not sure if any of you have played it
But blade of darkness (while being a very linear game) is also very, VERY good. Not really an RPG, more of a hack n slash action game, but awesome game nonetheless, it had the best combat system ive ever had the chance to play around with. Imagine if gothic had such a combat system with the differnet combinations of attacks..*drool*.
Plus having a shield and actually being able to make use of it was one of the coolest things i had ever seen.

Anyone else agree with me on this?

Yes, I played it, it is very good.
As you say it is more action game, Gothic is more RPG. So it is logical that when you produce a action game you concentrate on "battle system", when you produce RPG, you concetrate more on story/NPC/world...
But I agree... they will maybe add several combos etc. in Gothic2

Well, gothic features quite a large ammount of sword to sword combat (unless you chose to fight as a mage, even then some sword combat is nescary) and honestly, the combat system in Gothic isnt very well done. Its also really annoying when you're swinging madly at a group of monsters but only hitting the one that happens to be highlighted, in BOD, if you happen to hit a group of monsters, they'll die if they happen to be in the way of your sword .

of course, it would be immensely sweet to be fighting some scavengers or a group of snappers, doing a spin around and cutting them in half...ahh memories..

btw.. i have a question
when you gain level two one handed sword fighting, how do you do the 'spin around' attack to confuse the oponents
ive done it before but i didnt know what, i was just madly mashing keys

It does seem strange that you can hit someone/thing with a sword and not do any damage because it isn't highlighted. Yet with the bow the same doesn't apply.

If you have master two handed just keep hitting forward. You have to time it right, so practice when there aren't any monsters around.

thanks for the help..

also, i thought the bow system in gothic was really well done, on the other hand, i found the bow extrememly difficult to use in blade of darkness, sounds like these games could take a few lessons from eachother
