There should be a command-line program that slows down yer computer drastically to enable the playing of those ancient games, like original Pool of Radiance and others. It is called Moslo. You set it up to run like a 30 mHz machine. Good luck!

Here is one way they found to get it to work. Havent tried this myself though:
Ultima Underworld was unplayable under Windows XP until Moscow Dragon figured out a way to hack the game's executable:
Make a copy of the original UW2.EXE, in case something goes wrong
Open UW.EXE in your favorite hex editor
Search for the bytes: FA 52 BA 03 00 E4 64 A8 02
Patch the FA byte to C3
Save and exit
Note: this is only a recent hack and has not been well tested yet. It works on some of my computers (although not my main one). Please report your findings to Moscow Dragon in the rec.games.computer.ultima.dragons newsgroup.
Panzer Dragon has written a patch to upgrade Ultima Underworld 1 to support General MIDI. There is also a patch to correct the inventory bug in Ultima Underworld 1 - the one that causes duplicated items and turns the screen red.
I had installed on my P3 550 with WinXP professional and it worked, although I cant remember if it was straight from the install that I got it to work or not. I know I had to download a file to get Ultima 7 running and I may be thinking of that one. I definly had UU1 running on that Win XP machine though. |
