Disappearing Save Game

Hey,
I was making my way through chapter 5 as a Mercenary.
I saved my game and closed the game ... a few hours later I went back and was shocked to see my game gone! I searched for it and it says its still in my save game files but I couldnt access it... aswell all my settings were back to stock. This is my 4th time playing through gothic so its not that important I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a way to retrieve my save game. Thanks

Are your other saves intact? Can you copy it into another save slot?

usually if the files are in 2 folders at a time, that's what happens. and see if all of the files are in the folder:
LOG.SAV
OLDMINE.SAV
FREEMINE.SAV
ORCGRAVEYARD.SAV
ORCTEMPEL.SAV
SAVEDAT.SAV
SAVEHDR.SAV
SAVEINFO.SAV
THUMB.SAV
WORLD.SAV

otherwise, i don't know why it would do that.
