Since today's the last day for Gothic 2 publisher (JoWood) to present an investor, we should all cross our fingers and hope that they've secured one.
I don't even want to think about how it might effect the release of the English version of Gothic 2 if they haven't! |

I just know this will all go wrong, and we'll have to wait until next autumn or something to get the English version of the game..  |

Yeah. I just totaly don't understand the delay in the release. I guess the same thing happens when a US developer releases in the US first or a Japanese Developer releases in Japan first. I just really really want this game. I hope it all works out and they release by the end of January. If not...

They need an investor?!?
I dont pretend to know anything about publishing, but in my imagination Ive always figured the point for a small game development company (like Piranha Bytes) to go to a publishing company like Jowood was get a partner with enough funds to pay for the actual publishing of the finished product. But I guess Im wrong?
1. PB makes the game.
2. Jowood makes up bogus release dates and refuse to deliver a good reason for delays.
3. An investor puts in the money to publish the game.
I say screw 2!!!, we dont need those bastard!

Boy, that was close! There's a note on the main RPGDot page that JoWood managed to sell enough stock to convince the banks to keep working with them and let them stay afloat! They needed to raise at leasst 2.5 million and came in with 3 million. All of us english-speaking fans can breathe a little easier now!
I do wonder though, if this "evaluation" might be why we've seen a delay in the release of the English version? Not that I'd really blame JoWood if they did delay the English release so as to hold out the promise of good future sales from the title when they came in front of the banks and whoever else.
But it makes you wonder. Anyway, here's hoping that with this out of the way, we'll finally get a firm release date. |

In many cases the publisher funds the actual development of the game in the first place. Companies like PB don't usually have enough money to pay the 15-20 or so salaries for the 2-3 year dev cycle.
I don't really see EA or Sierra doing too many innovative RPGs these days so I'm glad that Jowood are there - without them or similar small publishers some of these products wouldn't get done if it was left to the major publishers. |
