Anyone here use it?! Do you think its just a toy for kids?

If so, short of coding your own engine from scratch, modding other engines, or using built in editors such as Siege Editor, what do you think is the best RPG making tool out there?

I made 2 games with it a while back. It's very dated, yet unlimited. I hate it now.

Yes, it is dated, and it isn't visually appealing at all.

Best tool for making your own RPG's? From those that are out now, Runesword 2 - because of the lack of competition. However, I think that if you are willing to spend a reasonable amount of time, the Morrowind editor will rock big time.

I've never done any modding, but I'm dying to see Morrowind's editor too!

I agree, RM2K is kinda dated. Guess it all comes down to the type of RPGs you prefer. I can't stand 3d RPGs and strongly lean towards top-down style so I guess thats why RM2K appealed to me. There's also VERGE (which seems to be forever stuck in DOS mode ick!) and RPG Toolkit (which probably has more bugs than the rotted out underside of a treestump).

If anything I guess its good for prototyping cause there's not much else out there.

Yeah there's editors for Arcanum, Dungeon Siege, and Morrowwind (not to mention the tons of third party stuff in the modding community).

Personally I'm sick of modding based on existing games so those are out the window. I'm looking for something in the way of low cost development tools to where I could churn out my own game and distribute it without forcing the end-gamer to buy the tools I made it with.

Anyone ever check the licensing fees some of the companies are charging for their engines?! So outrageous it makes Microsoft look like they're selling chewing gum. Can't remember which one it was but I remember it being one of the cheaper ones - was licensing for something like $20000.00 plus royalties.

Ok, so there was Adventure Construction Set and Bard's Tale Construction Set. But they toned the features down so you couldn't make anything competitive.

I would LOVE to see someone release an RPG development environment on the scale of Visual C++ or Visual Basic with a price structure under 200 bucks - license free, royalty free. But hey, we can all dream right?!
