I LOVE forests! and i love when in Gothic 1 you are under a tree and the rain couldn't catch you! simply awesome! _________________ =Member of the NonFlamers' Guild=

I know that was the way it worked in Gothic I, where you load a ground mesh, and the place all the VOBs..
I thought that you, due to previous experience, would make some kind of Scatter command in the new (spacer?), or you would make objects such as ferns a part of the mesh, so you could use max's scatter command.
But ofcourse, if they have to be penetrable, you would have to make them as VOBs, or give the textures for the ferns a special penetrable namingconvention. But then furthermore, if they have a sound effect when you walk into them.. well, i guess the only was to do that is to make them as VOBs.
I'm looking so much forward to see gothic 2, and I hope it will be possible to make mods for that too _________________ Thou shallt not kill |

well, laban. this funktion would be nice. but as mick jagger said years ago:
you cant always get what you want! we have a schedule and some things are not possible to implement in time..
some things then stay our, the levelmodelers, problem, and we have to solve it with the tools, already existing.
some words, about your technique you explained.
it is now possible to have levelpolygons, you can walk through. (based on material properties) in G1 this was not possible. so we have a big amount of vegetation implemented into the levelmesh.
but we cannot put all the ferns and different plants, we made for the woods, into the levelmesh, because of the polycount. as you should know, vobs are fading out in distance, before the clipping plane cuts everything.
and also, when you use the scatter tool in max, you have not such control about the placing. (and also not the possibilities to give them objects special properties! like you already mentioned before)
nevertheless you are right, that the scatter tool can be of use for us.
especially, when you have such a big amount of "world", you simply CANNOT place every object at its very right place.
so sometimes i use the scatter tool. and the scatter tool is also an option, to create larger vobs, which placement is only matching at a unique place of terrain.
well..
hope i could give you a small look inside
cu then..btw: when we do a modkit, it will be worked on the very last.
first goal is to finish gothic well.
bye..and excuse bad english..

This means nothing. It could be a simple error. German for 'if' is 'wenn'. You see how similiar this looks to 'when'? _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Yea.. but now when i think twice, i don't hope for a modkit after all.. it would ruin my social life even more than gothic did _________________ Thou shallt not kill |

Social life or Gothic, pick one.
