I installed Gothic and when I click on the .exe, I get this message:

The GOTHIC.EXE file is linked to missing export
>DDRAW.DLL:DirectDrawCreateEx.
>
>And
>
>C:Program FilesPirahna-BitesGothicsystemgothic.exe A device attached
>to the system is not functioning.

I have downloaded the patch and I still get the same error.

System specs: 128 RAM, 733 Mhz, directx 8...I do have a graphics card - can't tell you what it is..whatever came with the system. Not sure what else you need to know

I would really like to get this game running since I uh, paid for it and everything :|

This looks like a driver problem.
I guess at least the drivers for your graphics card are too old, maybe the soundcard too.
Can you estimate how old the windows on your system is ( =how old the drivers are) ?

Here´s how to find out what devices you have:
From the desktop choose Start->Run and then enter msinfo32 for the program name. Then look for display in the components section and the soundcard in the multimedia section.
If you can´t identify them 100% you can post all the names. It will only be a few.

When I know your specs I´ll try to point you to some newer drivers.

Your videocard drivers are really very very old...
You have some sort of S3 device.
Try download new drivers.
If problem will not be solved, you should also download soundcard drivers (yours are also very old).

Damn, a S3 graphics card. This is bad news.
Drivers for all the integrated S3 chipsets can be found on ViaArena.com, but it´s still necessary to identify the exact chipset.

ZombieBunny, you could right-click on the desktop and go to the display properties. Somewhere in the advanced properties is a section where the name of the graphics card is listed.

I went to that website and my chipset is ProSavage PM 133. I've looked on the list and don't see that one. These are the ones they list:

Pro Savage VGA integrated with the following Northbridges:
VT8604 (on PL133)
VT8605 (on ProSavage PL133T)
VT8364 (on KL133)
VT8364A (on KL133A)
VT8365 (on ProSavage KM133)
VT8365A (on ProSavage KM133A)

So, I don't know which one to download. I did download the latest 4 in 1 drivers.

PM133:
-VT8605 North Bridge Controller and the VT8231 South Bridge Controller
-VIA Apollo Pro133A technology with the powerful Savage4™ 3D and Savage2000™2D graphics core

To find the driver click on the S3 logo on the driver page, download the small utility to identify your chipset and visit the site mentioned there. You´ll find all flavours of drivers for the PM133, the latest are less than 4 weeks old.
