WOG talked to piranha and got the news that the English Demo was send to some game magazines to test and not to realise.
At the moment piranha will force this page to stop streaming this Demo.

Yes we know. See our news coverage from today. Actually, Piranha Bytes told us that there would not be a public english demo in the forseeable future several weeks ago (for some legal reasons). We had the now leaked press demo ourselves and did a report on it in July, I think.

It would be nice to know what made the site publish the demo then

Hey, didn't know? If you're searching for warez or crackz, just surf to www.***.cz ...
I think the Czech Republic is the largest provider of non-legal and inoffical software in europe.

Yup - but this is a highly official site, not a warez site. That was what made me believe that PB had changed their policy...

Yes, both of these sites are well known gaming sites in the Czech Republic. They are certainly NOT warez sites. On one of them (http://games.worldonline.cz/clanek/demo.asp?id=1959), I read in article about demo that they are not sure whether it is offical (since there was nothing mentioned on Piranha Bytes webpage).
So my opinion is that one of them (bonusweb) got to it and made it public without realizing that it should not be and the other one mirrored it (it is normal that these two sites usually mirror demos).
But again - neither of these sites does warez or cracks or anything else illegal. Probably mistake.
Anyway I do not think it will harm Gothic. German version/demo are out for ages, so there is no "big surprise" which would be spoiled by releasing demo. People knew what to expect.
IMHO Piranha Bytes should now accept reality, I do not see a point in recalling demo and releasing it a few weeks/months later. People will just laugh on it.
Things happened, so at least try to make best of it.

Just an off-topic comment:
Seeing the Gothic demo, I cannot help thinking about another game with uncertain release: Wizardry 8.

If somebody wanted to make public the press demo for Wizardry 8 in the same way as with Gothic...

I am tired of months and years of waiting...
And not at all certain that the released game ever appears.

That's a problem with far too many games these days, they're delayed for ages, and when they're finally released, noone is interested in them anymore.

Well I managed to download my copy. It looks like it is still up at FilePlanet. Is PB actively trying to stop people from mirroring it, or did they just forget about it and let the release flow?

The demo was removed from the original Czech servers on request of PB. So expect fileplanet mirrors to go down soon as well.

In other words, quickly download as long as it is possible .

I do not see any sense in recalling the demo now, but it happens.

Well, it does make sense if the "no demo" thingie is part of a contract or something like that...

i downloaded it to but does annyone knows if and when the game is going to be released? As far as i can tell only the German version of the game was released, and not all european people speak german. This situation reminds me of evil islands... Just hope it gets released soon it would only harm them (and me to after that demo )to delay it with al the rpg goodness coming this way...

Maybe if Ren is right about the contractual obligation, the english demo might have been "leaked" on purpose to get it out there. It certainly kicks up the talk about it, and gets people thinking about it. If its a limited release like this, it might even get people wanting it more trying to find it... Just conspiricy theories <:

It seems that fileplanet mirrors are now down as well .
I wonder how long it will take PB till the renewed "officiall" release of the demo.
