Game crashes in city, even when paused, after 15-20 minutes |
|
Hit Esc and let the menu sit at the city, I get this crash after 15-20 minutes consistently.

It crashes while doing nothing? Something is terribly wrong.
When I had frequent crashes after building a new machine it turned out to be a heat problem. My CPU fan had to be set to higher rotation speed.
I suggest you download Prime95 and another CPU intense program (a Divx encoder or a benchmark, doesnīt really matter). Let both run at the same time. This will put heavy load on CPU and memory. If there are any timing or stability issues Prime95 will complain about it and deliver error messages. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Heats fine (checked it), I play plenty of intensive games on the box, no problems. Plus, this is a memory error that's crashing out as specefied, I can go righ tback to playing gothic for another 15-20 minutes before the crash, and I can play for hours outside the city without a problem (although only in the initial zones since I have ventured very far).
Somethign is wrong, the only things that differ on my box between my friends are:
1024m memory where they had 512
5200 geforce instead of 3 or 4
Memory checked out, tested it, I'll try your suggestion on the intesive cpu just for good measure, but since it flags a memory error that crashes safely to windows, I'm highly suspicious (my last system had heat problems and just froze when it clocked too high). |

I did as you suggested, very neat program prime95 btw, but anyways, I ran several tests, jacked up a custom memory test (worked out fine) and a brutal cpu test whiel running several other high end devices with mbm5 monitor for temp, couldn't even get the temp above 48 C even maxing out the cpu in several quadrants.
Any other ideas? If the developers are interested I can send them my reports since I do get the full dump each time, might be a problem with the Geforce 5 series... |

Iīm running out of ideas. Maybe you want to increase the AGP aperture size a bit and create a large permanent swap file. I doubt it will help, though.
The developers arenīt here. You can post on the JoWooD boards and mail their tech support. Well, donīt expect too much ... _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

I tried an experiment, which was to run gothic 2 after it crashed. When I loaded the saved game, it garnered an unreferenced object read error (c++ object instantiation error) from gothic 2. I thinkt there is definitely an in game bug.
I can run around for hours outside the city without crashing.
Hope a patch comes out soon. |
