Who here agrees with me that one of Gothic's most notable ommissions was the ability to use shields? You should have been able to use shields while using your one-handed weapon. If you had a shield, you could hold your block move longer than if you didn't. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I had a shield in Gothic - its true - it is hidden in some code - if you dont believe it (and there will be many who dont) i might set up some screen-shots or small avi's. _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

Sorry if i was a bit vague on this, after completing gothic a couple of times, i thought about experimenting a bit, so i downloaded several tweak type prog's and editors, gothic player kit, Nico vdf, Goman, etc' etc' and several mods. Its true there i was starting gothic over again with items such as Sheep, snakes, turtles, a magic grenade launcher (target killed in flames) and horses and a sheild. Then my pc got a virus and crashed, I never continued with the mod since. As you will know my latest fad is to get mud or shrat (or both) to the end in gothic. It is'nt hard to do. what's your latest "thing" ? _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

Shields would be useful to defend yourself against magical attacks, but except for that I didn't miss shields in Gothic I or II. |

I imagine getting Mud and/or Shrat to the end would be hard to do. They don't seem to get much better (since mud refuses to fight anything better than a meatbug), and Shrat (even if he does get better) can't get new equipment (unless of course you use control). I suppose you could get Shrat to the end, but I'm not counting on Mud (unless you use cheats). But go for it. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

Yeh. its a swings & roundabouts situation, at the moment i have shrat with no armour and tweaked stats, he can kill an orc with his fists, and the exp' points go to me but they're not needed as i'm also tweaked, iv'e learned that there is no need to gain skill points for buddies, the stats are computed during a fight sequence, only level points, protection and armor points are sufficient. this leaves Mud as a problem, i can't leave the poor fellow out (his parents abandoned him in his childhood you know) With Shrat and Mud on the same tweaked stats, Mud is better. I tried two shrats and made one look like mud (muds head) and there was silence, but i feel guilty if i kick him out. The pair are invincible, i must carry on,- - for Mud. _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

Wait a second Hagen. . . Are you saying that Mud and/or Shrat are in Gothic 2 (I've never played it)? _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

MageofFire,
No there is no Mud or Shrat in G2. I think Hagen means because they were not in G2 then they would be very welcome if they were put in G3.
Hey there RastaBlasta420,
I tried to sit on the horse but when i did a F6, zoom, goto camera, enter, F8, pc-hero shot 100 metres up into the air, but it could walk, turn ect'. _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

In answer to the original question:
I don't agree. I mean, I have missed the shields alright, but there were much more noticeable omissions, imho. |
