Why can't I bribe the guards?

I'm doing the quest for Dusty. That's the one where he wants to meet up with Melvin in the Sect Camp. I met Melvin in the Sect Camp and returned to the Old Camp. I spoke to Dusty and he said he wants to go to the Sect Camp but he needs 100 ore to bribe the guards. According to the FAQ, it's the back gate guards that need to be bribed. There's three guards. The one by the winch has a few things to talk about but nothing about accepting a bribe. Just the standard "How's it going? Who's in charge? How do I join you? etc". The other 2 guards have very little to say. One says nothing at all and the other responds to "Hi" by telling me to get lost. The front guards were similar so what am I missing?

Is Chronos in the New Camp supposed to have a book about removing Bloodfly stingers? If you buy it, you'll then know how to remove the stingers and can then sell them. This is according to the FAQ, but Chronos doesn't have a book like that so does someone else have it or what? Is there someone else who can train me in removing Bloodfly stingers? Thanks.

About bribing the guards, you think too difficult about it. you just have to take dusty through the gate and walk towards the sect camp. As soon as dusty is out of the camp one of the guards will automaticly start a conversation with you. something like: Hey where are you going with our friend?
Anyways just try it, you will feel ashamed you even asked when you see how easy it really is

About the bloodfly stingers, I remember reading that book but I'´m not sure who was supposed to have it. I would have said Chronos but this doesn´t seem true. I'm quite sure nobody can teach you directly though.

Are you sure there's nothing else? Dusty said he needed 100 ore and that was the end of the conversation. I looked for a dialog option that would let me bring him with me, but I couldn't find one. I don't remember what the choices were, but I don't think there was one about leaving the camp together. Maybe I needed to close the dialog session and start a new one.

@Locutus,

One of the 4 Baals in the sect camp must give you the "new souls for the brotherhood" quest, only then will the dialogue appear when you next talk to Dusty.
If you did this quest very early in the game, you could clear most of the wolves, lizards etc' in the forrests - with Dusty as a follower you get all the free xp because Dusty at that point is immortal.

I read in the FAQ that he was immortal. I'm level 5. I was going to take him with me to kill the only thing I have been unable to kill - a shadowbeast. Everything else that I have tried to kill I have been able to kill including a biter, a family of snappers, a family of wolves, and a bloodhound. I have not tried to kill skeletons or swampsharks yet, but I'll get to it. Apparently, Tarrok in the free mine is supposed to offer training in some hunting skills. I can't find him so does he not show up until later? Wolf, in the New Camp, is also supposed to offer training in a hunting skill, but when I spoke to him he wasn't offering any training. Does this also not happen until later?

@Locutus,

You've been in the free mine at level 5..! - - you have gone way in front of the storyline, that all comes later within the natural progression of the game (ch-4, via Ur-shak) you may corrupt some of the storyline options if you cheat early on.
Wolf will train you in bow levels 1 and 2 as you level gets a bit higher. Ratford and Drax are your best trainers for hunting (exploitation of prey) as entered in your journal notes.
Providing you do not go to fast beyond the quests/subquests given through dialogue, then everything will come naturally in time as the game was meant to be played, a gentle building up of all the possible skills, strength, dex', potions, amulets, rings etc' - - - - there is more than enough of these to become a super hero towards the end of the game..........but not near the start.

Who’s cheating? I have no idea what you're talking about. First, it's a non-linear game so there shouldn't be anything stopping me from going wherever I want. However, I am following the FAQ. I started in the Old Camp and did the quests I could. I then went to the old mine as the FAQ says to do. Continuing to follow the FAQ, I went to the New Camp, then the Free Mine and then the Sect Camp which is where I am now. I’ve received training from Drax, Wolf and Gor Na Drak. I just escorted Dusty to the Sect Camp and finished the Bal quests. The book on bloodflies is sold by Bal Cadar so I bought that too. I also just advanced to level 7. Aside from using the FAQ, I don’t understand why you would say I’m cheating. It’s an open-ended game. You’re given the freedom to go where you want. Cheating is something done intentionally. So if I’m doing something I’m not supposed to do, then that should have been spelled out clearly somewhere. I’m going to do some more hunting, kill some swampsharks hopefully, get Dar Na Ban’s (spelling?) sword… When I have a few thousand ore and some more experience, I’ll join the Old Camp.

I think Wulf meant getting INTo the new mine cheating, this is not possible in the normal game untill you get the quest to go in there. I think you have not really been in the free mine (game loads another area), but just at the pit where the entrance is located...

Furthermore I would advice you to play the game as it comes when you do it the first time, not using the faq to run through the best possible way without missing any quests. If you just start quest withuot getting them in the rpoper way (i.e. talking to the baals) you will end up asking questions that you could solved if you payed attention.

And you read up immortal npc´s in the faq and let them hunt shadowbeasts for you and say you don't cheat? lol!

Correct. That's not cheating. Dusty is a character in the game. How can it be cheating to use something that is part of normal gameplay??? Using mods or the console is cheating. If using Dusty for hunting is cheating, then it's also cheating to pick locks, steal, or lure a swampshark to attack and kill Gor Na Ban so I can get his sword. In the end, I didn't make use of Dusty, anyway. I took him straight to the Sect Camp. If you don't know the meaning of a word, you shouldn't be using it. Look up "cheating" in the dictionary! ROTFL!

Sorry Locutus, my mistake, i thought you meant you spoke with tarrok in the free mine.
You are quite right, you are playing the game o.k - - just abit different but thats what choice means, please continue, i will give any help where possible.
If you kill the shadowbeasts, which are needed later on (quest dependant) the game will know and re-spawn them.
You can take Dusty where-ever, i took him to the end of the game, and Mud, and Shrat.

JemmyM's Faq, is NOT the de-facto standard!. it contains many "dont knows" and some errors, but in its day it was most helpful. thats what i think tolgerias was trying to explain.
