Raising Str to 100 and some musings on stats |
|
My character is a dragon hunter in Chapter IV and cannot find anyone to
help his train his strength from 90 to 100. Do I have to wait for the next
chapter, or was Brutis in the castle the only trainer that could have done so?
On a related subject, what do you guys think of game systems that keep no
track on how you raise your stats, and punish you for doing something that makes perfect sense too early. What do I mean? For example, you find
a potion that raises a stat, but you have to wait 'till you raise it to the
maximum allowed by training before you drink the potion. Or a system in
which stats cost more as they get higher, and thus spending 100xpts on
one stat and then drinking the potion works better than drinking the
potion and spending the xpt.
I personally think that this is annoying. You should not have to know
meta-game information like stats mechanics in order to decide when you
should use an item that is clearly benefitial. All good things should be
done as early as possible, in my book. |

I am all for getting the benefit for a potion as soon as you get it. In fact, that's where they are most useful. They free up learning points so you can spend them on other skills. Waiting to 100 just so you can get some insane str/dex that is execessive isn't beneficial. For Mana, of course, its a different story. You can never have enough mana -- so holding out till the training MAX (if you can) actually makes sense in this respect.
BTW, you do know that you can use a permanent potion at any time right?
I am not opposed to a system that requires more "expereince/points" to raise skills to higher levels. It strongly encourages specialization, and not "jacks of all trades" type characters. System Shock 2 had something like this. _________________ All shall hear the words of Karras...the words of Karras |
